The Ford Endeavour is expected to arrive on the Indian market sometime in 2025. While we know Ford is readying its assembly line for volume production, we should not rule out the possibility of the SUV being sold as a CBU (completely built-up) product. The model – which will likely mark Ford's return to India – will be all-new for our market, given that the American carmaker did not bring the current-generation Endeavour here for the already known reason. With Ford ending local production in 2021, the full-size seven-seater SUV was discontinued in the country.
What Ford will bring to India is the third-generation Endeavour SUV, sold as the Everest in Thailand, Australia, and other international markets. This generation of the SUV was revealed overseas in 2022 and is based on the Ranger platform with a ladder-frame architecture. However, the upcoming model could receive India-specific upgrades when it goes on sale in the country, although the company has yet to make it official. Once launched, the new Ford Endeavour will be aimed squarely at the Toyota Fortuner. Now, let's see how the upcoming Ford Endeavour will stack up against its close competitor:
Upcoming Ford Endeavour vs Toyota Fortuner: Powertrain
Underneath the skin, the SUV offered abroad gets multiple engine options: a 2.0-litre single-turbo diesel linked to a 6-speed AT with SelectShift and a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel mated to a 10-speed AT with SelectShift. The former makes 168bhp and 405Nm of peak torque, while the latter generates 207bhp and 500Nm of torque. The SUV also offers an option of a new 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine (243bhp/600Nm) that powers the new Ford Ranger. All engines are hooked up to a 10-speed automatic transmission. In some markets, the SUV is also available in a 4x2 configuration.
The Toyota Fortuner, on the other side, gets two engine options – a 2.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel. The petrol engine is tuned to churn out 164bhp and 245Nm of peak torque, while the diesel engine makes 201bhp and 500Nm of maximum torque. Both engines come mated to a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission, with the diesel versions also coming with an optional 4x4 system.

Visually, the international-spec Ford Endeavour has a boxy front end housing a big grille with a horizontal bar, Matrix LED headlights, and C-shaped LED DRLs. While the wheel size starts at 18 inches and goes to 21 inches, we expect the India-spec model to come with larger 21-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, the car sports a revised bumper, inverted L-shaped LED tail lamps, and an upright tailgate.
While the current-generation Ford Endeavour made its global debut in 2022, the Toyota Fortuner – introduced in India in 2016 – received its first major update in January 2021. The India-spec Fortuner gets a mesh-pattern grille, redesigned LED headlights with LED daytime running lights, revised bumpers, reprofiled LED tail lamps, and new 18-inch alloy wheels.
