Upcoming Electric Cars in India in 2025: Hyundai Creta EV, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara and More

Here’s a glimpse of some exciting electric car launches in India from well-known automakers like Maruti Suzuki, and Hyundai.

Electric cars are gaining traction in India, offering benefits like zero emissions and high energy efficiency. At the upcoming Bharat Mobility Expo, Maruti Suzuki will unveil its first-ever EV, while Hyundai will announce the pricing of the electric Creta SUV. Hyundai Creta EV

The Hyundai Creta Electric has two battery pack options: a 51.4kWh and a 42kWh. The claimed driving range is 473 kilometres for the larger battery and 390 kilometres for the smaller one.  The Creta Electric can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 58 minutes with a DC fast charger. Using an 11kW Wall Box charger, it takes about 4 hours to charge from 10% to a full 100%.

The electric version of the Creta has four distinct variants (Executive, Smart, Premium, and Excellence), and is available in a range of 8 monotone colours and 2 dual-tone options. Price-wise, the Hyundai EV is likely to start at Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara

Similar to its global counterpart, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara may offer two battery options: a 49kWh (FWD) and a 61kWh (FWD/AWD). It's expected to deliver a range of up to 600 kilometres. The SUV has a state-of-the-art Heartect-e platform, developed in collaboration with Toyota. This skateboard-style architecture is designed for battery electric cars (BEVs).

The e Vitara is anticipated to be priced at approximately Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival electric models such as the Tata Curvv EV, the MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV.

Mahindra XEV 7e

The XUV700-based EV, potentially named 'XEV 7e' is speculated to utilise similar battery packs (59kWh and 79kWh) as the XEV 9e. It is also likely to offer an all-wheel-drive option. The Mahindra XEV 7e is likely to be priced at around Rs 20.9 lakh (ex-showroom). It will go up against the upcoming Tata Safari EV.

Mercedes-Benz EQS 450, G Wagon EV

The 5-seat EQS 450 SUV and the all-electric G-Class will launch on January 9, 2025. The EQS 450 boasts a 122kWh battery and 536bhp. With a 200kW DC charger, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 31 minutes. The EQS 450 will be locally assembled, leading to competitive pricing. On the other hand, the G-Class electric (G580 EQ) will have a powerful four-motor setup, generating 579bhp and 1,164Nm.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV

The Toyota EV has lithium-iron phosphate cells, with two options (49kWh and 61kWh). The SUV's 49kWh version has a front-wheel drive (FWD) system and generates 189Nm and 142bhp. The 61kWh model is more potent, with a front motor that produces 172bhp.

The Toyota EV will also have an all-wheel-drive (AWD), powered by a 61kWh battery and an extra 64bhp motor at the back axle, just like its Suzuki counterpart. This AWD setup delivers a combined output of 181bhp and 300Nm. The Toyota EV is expected to be priced around Rs 23 lakh (ex-showroom) and will make its debut at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show, scheduled to kick off on January 10.
