Citroen will launch its upcoming C3 SUV on July 20 this year with pre-bookings set to open on July 1. The C3 is going to be the French automaker’s second product in the Indian market and will be the new entry point to its lineup.
The brand’s decision to place the car in the SUV-inspired B-segment hatchback is impressive considering it opens a wide volume area. In terms of powerplant, the Citroen C3 will get a 1.2-litre petrol motor under its hood which will be offered in two states of tune. At the bottom rung, the naturally aspirated engine will deliver 81bhp and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission as standard. Placed above, is the trim with a turbocharger that outputs 108bhp and 190Nm of torque through a six-speed manual transmission as standard. Citroen claims that the car can attain triple-digit speeds in 10 seconds in the turbo-variant.
The company has not yet disclosed any details of its automatic variants and is likely to launch it with the manual variants only. Citroen has stated the C3 will be localised up to 90%. However, instead of entering the hotly-contested compact SUV segment, the car will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz and even the Honda WR-V.
