In August 2024, a wide range of new car models across multiple segments, are scheduled to go on sale in India. At least eight new cars, comprising mass-market and luxury models, will launch next month. There will be the highly anticipated 5-door edition of the Mahindra Thar, improving practicality over the ordinary Thar. On the other hand, the Tata Curvv will arrive in the form of a new coupe SUV with petrol, diesel, and electric engine options. It is evident from this that automotive fans and prospective buyers will find the upcoming month to be very interesting. Here's a list of models set to launch in the market in the coming month.

Mahindra Thar Roxx
With an official launch date of August 15, the Mahindra Thar 5-door finally has a name. The homegrown manufacturer has opted for the suffix "Roxx" instead of the "Armada". Besides the extra pair of doors and longer wheelbase, the Thar Roxx will also have ADAS, LED projector headlamps, a 360-degree camera, a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen, and a fully digital instrument cluster. The lifestyle off-roader is expected to have three engine options: a 2.0-litre turbo petrol, a 2.2-litre diesel, and a new 1.5-litre diesel. These units may be mated to an automated or manual gearbox. The Thar Roxx, like its three-door counterpart, is slated to come with rear-wheel drive as standard and 4WD as an option.
Nissan X-Trail
Nissan's brand-new offering, the fourth-gen X-Trail, will be the first car to go on sale next month. The SUV will be available as a CBU model in India, beginning August 1. There are currently 150 X-Trail units available for the first round of buyers. We expect it to cost between Rs 40 lakh and 45 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with models such as the Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner, and MG Gloster.
Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV
Citroen is set to introduce Basalt, its third locally produced car, in India. The Basalt is a unique coupe SUV with a sharply receding roofline that gives the vehicle a dynamic edge. It is built on the same CMP architecture as the C3 Aircross. The French manufacturer has already released official images of the model, which is set for an official launch on August 2. A 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine will power the Basalt. The mill will be paired with an automated torque converter or manual gearbox, delivering 190Nm (205Nm in AT) and 109bhp. Six-speed torque converter automatic or six-speed manual transmissions will be available.
Tata Curvv
Tata Motors plans to bring the Curvv in EV and ICE configurations to the Indian market in August. The former will compete against the MG ZS EV, the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, and the Maruti Suzuki eVX. The latter, on the other hand, will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. The Curvv will be among the first coupe SUVs available for Indian buyers. The ICE model will have three engine options: a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol with 120bhp, a 1.5-litre diesel with 115bhp, and a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder direct-injection turbo-petrol with 125bhp. For all three units, there will be a dual-clutch automatic option. Meanwhile, the EV version will come with two battery packs: a 55kWh unit and a 40.5kWh unit.

Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet, AMG GLC 43 4Matic Coupe
Mercedes-Benz will launch the CLE Cabriolet in India on August 8. The all-new convertible is based on the brand's Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) platform, which underpins the existing C-Class and the forthcoming E-Class models. With a 2+2 seating layout, it will likely be available in two variants: the CLE 300 4Matic and the CLE 450 4Matic. Being a CBU, it is estimated to cost more than Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom).
On the same day, the German premium carmaker will also release the redesigned AMG GLC 43 4Matic Coupe in the country. The AMG 43 4Matic Coupe is based on the GLC and has a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine with mild hybrid technology. A nine-speed automated gearbox handles transmission responsibilities, distributing power to all four wheels. The AMG GLC 43 4Matic Coupe, like the CLE Cabriolet, will be a CBU (Completely Built Unit), with an expected price of more than Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom).
Lamborghini Urus SE Hybrid
On August 9, the Lamborghini Urus SE will arrive in India. The SE receives new dashboard panels, reworked AC vents, and a new 12.3-inch central touchscreen in addition to exterior style modifications over the regular Urus. It is equipped with a plug-in hybrid technology that uses a 25.9kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. It is the most potent SUV variant, with a total output of 789bhp and 950Nm of torque.
