For the first time ever, the Porsche 911 Carrera will be offered with a turbocharged engine. And knowing the way Porsche loyalists react to changes on a 911, their reactions are yet to be seen as the car will be first showcased at the upcoming 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Nevertheless, in the current trend of downsizing engines for higher fuel efficiency and lower tail pipe emissions, the new 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera will be offered with a 3.0 litre, flat six, twin turbocharged engine. The end result is that the car consumes 7.5 litres of petrol per 100 km, this is 1.2 litres less than its predecessor. Power and torque outputs have gone up by 20 bhp and 59Nm respectively. This means that peak power and torque outputs are now rated at 365 bhp @ 6,500 rpm and 449Nm of torque between 1,700 – 5,000 rpm, respectively. The Carrera S develops 414 bhp and 498Nm.

Gearbox options will include a seven-speed PDK automatic unit and a seven-speed manual for those spirited buyers. 0 – 100 km/h is dealt with in 4.2 seconds (3.9 with the Sport Chrono pack in the Carrera S), this makes both models 0.2 seconds faster than the earlier models. The models also have higher top speeds of 292 km/h for the Carrera and 305 km/h for the Carrera S. Porsche has also sent the car around the Nurburgring where it clocked a time of 7 minutes and 34 seconds, this is over six seconds faster than the earlier model.
Porsche will be offering the new 911 Carrera with the option of four-wheel steering (said to cut down turning circle by 0.4m) to make the car more agile around bends as well. Hydraulic ride height lift will also be offered as an option, to raise the car by 40mm in five seconds. Definitely helpful for India and its ginormous speed breakers, that.
Exterior changes on the car are limited to new front and rear lamps, active air ducts and redesigned rear air vents for better cooling. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) is now standard on the car.
Prices for the new Porsche 911 Carrera are expected to start in the range of $90,000 when it goes on sale. The car will be launched on December 12, 2015 in Germany.
