With the release of the new Urban Cruiser Taisor, Toyota Kirloskar Motor announced its foray into the sub-4 metre crossover/SUV market. The brand has launched the model at a starting price of Rs 7.74 lakh (ex-showroom). As it is a derivative of the Fronx, the Taisor comes as the fourth rebadged Toyota product to be based on a Maruti Suzuki model. Both the cars are powered by the same engine options. These include a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine that produces 88.5bhp of maximum power and 113Nm of torque, as well as the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit that delivers 99bhp and 147.6Nm of torque. There are three available transmission options: automatic, manual, and torque converter. So, in what ways does the new Urban Cruiser Taisor differ from the Fronx? Let's take a closer look at the same.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor vs Maruti Suzuki Fronx: Design
The new Taisor and the Fronx have the same dimensions. On the design front, Toyota has attempted to add some uniqueness to its crossover. The front fascia is where the biggest difference is visible. Rather than using the Fronx's hexagonal grille design, Toyota has opted for a more trapezoidal shape with a new honeycomb pattern. Additionally, less chrome is used, with a darker exterior shade. In keeping with the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Toyota has also modified the LED daytime running light characteristic to a dual-line style. Moreover, the front air dam is now wider due to modifications made to the bumper design to make room for the new grille.
Except for the wheels, not much has changed when you look at the side profile. A set of 16-inch wheels is also included with the Taisor, although they have a different, cleaner-looking design. Some components, such as the faux roof rails and the underbody cladding, have been kept in place. Regarding the rear, the new LED taillight signature is the only significant modification. Indeed, the Urban Cruiser Taisor has connected lights just like the Fronx, but it has a simpler light signature that matches the Hyryder's taillights more closely. Other design components, such as the rear bumper, have not changed.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor vs Maruti Suzuki Fronx: Colour Options
The brand-new Urban Cruiser Taisor can be had in a total of five colour options: Cafe White, Enticing Silver, Sportin Red, Lucent Orange, and Gaming Grey. Meanwhile, the available paint jobs for the Fronx include Nexa Blue, Arctic White, Splendid Silver, Grandeur Grey, Earthen Brown, Opulent Red, and Bluish Black. For both SUVs' turbocharged models, dual-tone options are also offered.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor vs Maruti Suzuki Fronx: Interior Layout and Features
It should come as no surprise that the interior and feature list of both vehicles are identical. Thus, the top models come equipped with amenities like an infotainment system with a touchscreen and phone mirroring, climate control with rear vents, a head-up display (HUD), a 360-degree camera, an LED light package, connected car technology with smartwatch connectivity, driver's seat height adjustment, powered windows and mirrors, and an electric sunroof.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor vs Maruti Suzuki Fronx: Price
Depending on the version, there is a price differential of up to Rs 25,000 between the 1.2-litre engine that Taisor and Fronx both provide. There is a very slight difference of Rs 1000 between the Fronx and the Taisor in the 1.0-litre turbo model range.
