For now, Toyota has only announced pricing for the top-spec variants of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is entering a very competitive segment, and while its strong-hybrid tech gives it an upper hand in terms of powertrain technology, we couldn’t have said anything about the possibility of its success without knowing its pricing. But now, Toyota has disclosed the prices, and the strong-hybrid range starts at Rs 15.11 lakh.
The strong-hybrid range has a total of four variants. The prices are as follows – the S eDrive 2WD Hybrid costs Rs 15.11 lakh, G eDrive 2WD Hybrid is priced at 17.49 lakh, and the top-spec V eDrive 2WD Hybrid costs 18.99 lakh.
The Urban Cruiser Hyryder will also get a more conventional mild-hybrid powertrain, which should also be more affordable. However, Toyota has only announced prices for the top-spec V AT 2WD Neodrive variant, which costs Rs 17.09 lakh. There are a total of 8 mild-hybrid variants listed on Toyota India’s website, and curiously, the 4WD variants aren't mentioned there.
The price announcement strategy is a little strange, as most companies announce a headline-grabbing base price and then disclose prices for higher spec variants. By going the opposite route, Toyota may be planning to give an even bigger surprise when it announces the prices of the lower-spec mild-hybrid variants.
Currently, at Rs 15.11 – 18.99 lakh, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder goes up against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Volkswagen Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq, among other mid-size SUVs. Maruti Suzuki is also expected to compete in that space very soon with the Grand Vitara, which is a close sibling to the Hyryder.
