Toyota has officially revealed the production version of the Urban SUV Concept, which made its debut last year. Called the Toyota Urban Cruiser, this electric SUV closely follows the design of the original concept and shares several similarities with the Maruti Suzuki eVX-based e Vitara. The Urban Cruiser EV measures 4,285mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,640mm in height. This makes it 15mm shorter and 20mm narrower than the concept, which was 4,300mm long and 1,820mm wide. However, the wheelbase remains unchanged at 2,700mm. In comparison to the Suzuki e Vitara, which is 4,275mm long, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is just slightly longer by 10mm. Let's dive into more details about this exciting new Toyota electric SUV.
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Design
The Urban Cruiser EV retains the core design of the original concept, albeit with a few adjustments for the production model. It features standard LED headlights with integrated DRLs, connected by a black bar, with the Toyota logo positioned above. There is a darkened lower grille and bumper, with air ducts in front of the wheel wells designed to optimise airflow. Moreover, the charging port is positioned on the front left quarter panel. Other notable features include C-pillar-mounted rear door handles, squared-off wheel arches, robust door cladding, and new alloy wheels.

The rear of the vehicle is dominated by a bold bumper, a seamlessly integrated roof spoiler, and a continuous tail light strip with a reflective element in the centre. The circular lighting bits embedded in the taillights, similar to the DRLs, add a unique touch to the overall look.
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Interior
The cabin of the Urban Cruiser EV is quite similar to that of the e Vitara, with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a two-spoke steering wheel, and a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen. It includes single-zone automatic climate control, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, drive modes, and a wireless phone charger. For added comfort and convenience, the higher-spec versions will come with a sunroof, a JBL audio system, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.
The rear seats will feature a 40:20:40 split-folding setup, and the ability to slide and recline for added flexibility and comfort. The Urban Cruiser EV will be equipped with a comprehensive safety package, including a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), 360-degree camera, and an ADAS with features like a pre-collision system, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning.
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Powertrain
The Toyota EV packs the same flexible skateboard platform, battery packs, and electric motor configurations as the e Vitara. The Urban Cruiser EV has lithium-iron phosphate cells, with two options: 49kWh and 61kWh. The 49kWh variant of the Urban Cruiser EV gets a front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup, producing 142bhp and 189Nm. The 61kWh version steps up with a more powerful 172bhp front motor and 189Nm of torque. The Toyota EV will also feature an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option, driven by the 61kWh battery and complemented by an additional 64bhp motor at the rear axle, similar to its Suzuki counterpart. This AWD model will deliver a combined output of 181bhp and 300Nm.

The AWD versions will come equipped with Trail Mode, which senses wheel spin and applies braking to the spinning wheel while redistributing torque to the opposite wheel for improved traction. In contrast, the FWD versions will include a Snow Mode, designed to minimise wheel slip and enhance stability on snowy and icy roads.
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: India Launch
Toyota has yet to announce the launch date for the electrified Urban Cruiser in India, but it’s anticipated to arrive by late 2025 with an estimated price tag of Rs 23 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete against the Tata Curvv EV, the MG ZS EV, and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV. However, the global debut of the model will take place at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show, set to begin on January 10.
