Just like the Toyota Glanza is based on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the Urban Cruiser will be a badge-engineered iteration of the Vitara Brezza. Expect the Toyota compact SUV to sport an exclusive design.
Toyota has just dropped a teaser image of its upcoming compact SUV – the Urban Cruiser. For the uninitiated, this new offering from Toyota will be based on the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, as part of a partnership between the two carmakers. This isn’t the first Toyota product to be launched under the new alliance – the Glanza has been developed on the Baleno. In fact, with the exception of a few design elements, it's hard to tell the Glanza and Vitara Brezza apart. That, however, may not be the case with the Urban Cruiser. If the teaser is anything to go by, the Toyota product is likely to look different from the Vitara Brezza. Although details are scarce as of now, only two design elements are evident in the teaser image – the chrome front grille and a new set of alloy wheels. Aside from the bumpers and a few other elements, doors and metal parts are likely to be shared by the two.
Under the hood, the Urban Cruiser will remain identical to the Vitara Brezza. The Toyota offering is likely to be offered with just a BS6 compliant 1.5-litre petrol engine, which is good for 103bhp and 138Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and an automatic.
Toyota is expected to bring in the Urban Cruiser in a month's time. With the Vitara Brezza priced in the Rs 7.34 lakh – Rs 11.40 lakh range, expect the Urban Cruiser to be somewhat similarly priced. Just like the Glanza though, Toyota may only bring the top two variants of the Urban Cruiser – both of which will be based on the top-spec variants of the Brezza. Just like in the Glanza, Toyota is also likely to offer a 3year/1,00,000km warranty on the Urban Cruiser as well.
