Toyota India is recalling more than 7,100 Corolla sedans manufactured between April 2007 and July 2008 to fix faulty airbags.

The issue is similar to the one that has hit fellow Japanese manufacturers Honda and Nissan, with the trio reliant on the same airbag supplier, Takata.

"In line with the global recall by Toyota Motor Corp, TKM has announced a special service campaign for passenger-side airbag in the Corolla model which will be extended to Corolla models manufactured during April 2007 till June 2008. Additionally, a few vehicles manufactured between June 2008 and July 2008 fall under the ‘7-year mandate’ of the voluntary recall code and the company will initiate a voluntary recall to inspect and rectify the vehicles,’’ the company said in a statement.

A voluntary code adopted by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers(SIAM) in 2012 has resulted in more than 8 lakh cars being recalled till date.
