Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) was forced to recall the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the Glanza a week ago due to a potential flaw in the airbag assembly controller. After its launch last year, the company has now issued a third recall for the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. This time, the brand had to recall the models that were made between 8 August 2022 and 15 November 2022. The recall was initiated to look into a potential problem with the rear seatbelt assembly. In order to replace the problematic/defective part for free on behalf of its customers, the automaker will proactively recall a total of 4,026 Urban Cruiser Hyryder units through its authorised dealership. According to the manufacturer, the authorised dealership will contact each affected vehicle's owner individually. Customers can also contact their local Toyota dealership for assistance.

Talking about the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the car has been developed jointly with Maruti Suzuki and competes in the hotly contested B-SUV segment. The Hyryder is the first car in its segment to offer powerful hybrid powertrain options. Toyota's e-drive fourth-generation hybrid technology is used in international products such as the Yaris hatchback and the Yaris Cross SUV. It is powered by a 1.5-litre TNGA Atkinson Cycle engine that generates 90bhp of maximum power and 122Nm of peak torque. This engine is coupled with an electric motor that produces 77bhp and 141Nm of torque. The SUV's hybrid system employs a 177.6 V Lithium-ion battery, which provides an electric-only range of up to 25 kilometres.

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder has a new design that shares some elements with newer Toyota SUVs available in international markets. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder features dual-layer DRLs that merge into a redesigned grille. The vehicle also includes the latest sporty bumpers with a tall air dam flanked by a pair of large full-LED headlights. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has slim C-shaped taillights at the back. A chrome strip runs across the centre and merges with the taillamps, housing the Toyota logo.

Coming to the interior of the SUV, the dashboard of the car resembles that of Maruti Suzuki models such as the Baleno and the Brezza. The interior is dual-tone, with padded leather on the dash and some chrome and soft-touch materials on the door pads. It shares some of its components with Maruti Suzuki, such as the AC controls, AC vents, and the 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

A panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, a wireless charger, a fully digital instrument cluster, a heads-up display, connected car technology, and voice assist with Google and Siri compatibility are among the notable features of the 2022 Hyryder. The car has 6 airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, ESP, hill-hold assist, 3-point seatbelts for all rear passengers, all-wheel disc brakes, and hill descent control for safety.

Moreover, because the Grand Vitara and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder have similar underpinnings and components, Maruti Suzuki has also recalled the Grand Vitara.
