Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has issued a recall of 1,390 units of the Glanza and the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, produced between 8 December 2022 and 12 January 2023, in India because of a possible issue with the airbag controller assembly. However, no failures of the affected part have been documented as of yet. Owners have been asked by the carmaker to not drive the affected vehicles until the defective part has been inspected, for the defective airbag controllers in vehicles could prevent them from deploying in the event of a collision. Customers will be contacted by appropriate Toyota dealers for the issue, or consumers can get in touch with representatives directly.

In general, when vehicle owners, authorities, or manufacturers believe that a component in a vehicle is defective or can potentially compromise the safety of customers or does not adhere to specified requirements, recalls are issued. Safety-related recalls are usually issued because of components like seat belts, brakes, electrical parts or wiring, tyres, door locks, fuel pumps, and ignition switches. The beginning of 2023 has so far seen recalls issued by carmakers like the Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Kirloskar Motor. Interestingly, both manufacturers issued the recalls because of the same reason.
