Waited for the Toyota Hilux to arrive in India? Well, the wait is almost over as the Hilux will soon make its India debut and rival against the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross which was updated last year.
The bookings for the Hilux pick up will commence on January 20, 2022, and the dealerships will reserve your piece for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh. An official price announcement is likely to happen in the early week of February 2022. The deliveries of the Toyota Hilux will commence in March.
The pickup truck will step into the segment where we have the 2021 Isuzu D-Max V-Cross. The last time the Indian automotive industry has two pickups in the same segment was years ago when the Mahindra Scorpio Getaway and the Tata Xenon were on sale.
However, now the pickup market is slightly premium and the D-Max V-Cross and Hilux are likely to offer more than a standard SUV.
Engine
The Hilux will feature the same 2.8-litre diesel engine which is offered in the outgoing Fortuner. The D-Max V-Cross gets a substantially smaller engine on offer but thankfully both the pickups offer the convenience of an automatic transmission. But most enthusiastic off-roaders are likely to prefer the respective six-speed manual gearbox.
Toyota Hilux | Isuzu D-max V-Cross | |
Engine | 2,755cc, Four-Cylinder | 1,898cc, Four-Cylinder |
Power | 201bhp | 161bhp |
Torque | 420Nm (MT), 500Nm (AT) | 360Nm |
Transmission | 6-speed MT, 6-Speed AT | 6-speed MT, 6-Speed AT |
The higher displacement does not necessarily dictate the power output, however, in this case, the Hilux's bigger engine produces 200bhp which almost sports car territory.
Features
The key element of purchasing a pickup truck is the bandwidth of practicality. The Hilux and V-Cross both feature a flatbed at the back and a dual cabin which can seat five occupants.
While the details are scarce, the Hilux is expected with a feature list similar to the Fortuner, which could likely include projector headlamps, ventilated seats, ambient lighting, wireless smartphone charger and many more.
The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, on the other hand, also offers features such as Push-button start-and-stop, 8-speaker multimedia, a 7-inch infotainment system with a cruise control system
Cycle parts
Speaking of the Toyota Hilux first, the pick up gets coil springs on the rear axles, whereas, the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross features leaf springs. Right of the head, the coil springs are a superior suspension setup when compared to the leaf springs, however, which one offers a more suitable setup for our Indian roads, hence we shall reserve our judgement for now.
Pricing
The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross starts at Rs 22.07 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes all the way up to Rs 25.60 lakh (ex-showroom). The Toyota Hilux is expected to debut with a slightly higher price band, which is likely to start from Rs 25 lakh.
