Toyota Kirloskar Motor today launched India’s first locally manufactured hybrid - The Camry Hybrid. The Camry needs no introduction in India as Toyota had brought it here in 2002 and later started manufacturing the petrol version in 2012.
The new Hybrid avatar of the Camry will be manufactured at a separate assembly line within TKM’s second plant located in Bidadi. India is the 9thcountry to manufacture Toyota hybrid vehicles.
Based on the 7th generation of the Camry, the Camry hybrid combines a newly developed hybrid 2.5-litre beltless petrol engine with an electric motor. The vehicle intelligently senses when to switch between the two power sources – petrol engine and electric motor thanks to the 'Hybrid Synergy Drive'.
The 2.5-litre petrol engine and motor together put out 204 bhp. The mileage that Toyota claims on this Hybrid car is 19.16km/l (ARAI figures)
The Camry Hybrid comes with an Electronically Controlled Continuous Variable Transmission (E-CVT), which provides enhanced driving performance, with reduced fuel consumption and lower NVH.
The Camry Hybrid offers best-in-class cabin space and also gets a first-in-class power recline rear seat, rear armrest with controls for power recline rear seats, power sunshade for rear windshield, audio system and air conditioning and 3 Zone Air conditioning facilitates individual temperature controls for the driver, front passenger and rear passenger.
Mr. Hiroshi Nakagawa, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, TKM said “The Camry Hybrid is India’s first locally manufactured Hybrid vehicle. Manufacturing the Camry hybrid locally, in India, marks a very important milestone in the history of TKM and the Indian automobile industry.”
Toyota has priced the Camry Hybrid at Rs. 29.75 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi)
