The Tata Punch was the best-selling SUV in May 2024, with 18,949 units sold. The Tata car preserved its title in the SUV segment, but it lost the overall car category to the new Maruti Suzuki Swift. There's no denying the fact that SUVs sell the most in India owing to multiple factors, including more space, comfort and style. Here's a brief account of the models that performed best last month.
Tata Punch
The Punch saw a 70% YoY increase from the 11,124 units sold in May 2023. The SUV comes with a variety of powertrain options, including petrol, CNG, and electric. Its electric variant is priced at 10.99 lakh, while the ICE version costs Rs 6.13 lakh. The CNG variant, on the other hand, retails for Rs 7.23 lakh. These are starting and ex-showroom prices.

Hyundai Creta
The Hyundai Creta sold 14,662 units last month, up 1% year-on-year from 14,449 vehicles sold the year before. The SUV comes with three engine choices: 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol, 1.5-liter diesel, and 1.5-liter turbo-petrol. It is equipped with a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, air purifier, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, an 8-speaker Bose audio system, 17-inch alloy wheels, 360-degree camera, drive modes, electronic parking brake, and ADAS. Prices for the Hyundai SUV range from Rs 11 lakh to Rs 20.15 lakh. Both quoted prices are ex-showroom.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza was the third best-selling SUV in May this year. It sold 14,186 units, marking a 6% increase over the 13,398 units sold the previous year at this time. The SUV costs between Rs 8.34 lakh and Rs 14.14 lakh (ex-showroom). It comes with several features such as paddle shifters (AT variants), a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 6-speaker system (including two tweeters), a sunroof, automatic air conditioning with rear vents, wireless phone charging, cruise control, and a heads-up display. Mechanically, the SUV offers both petrol (1.5-litre) and CNG options.
Mahindra Scorpio
With 13,717 sold, the Mahindra Scorpio recorded a robust 47% YoY growth in May 2024. Both the Scorpio-N and Classic versions contributed to the growth. The former is priced at Rs 13.85 lakh, while the latter costs Rs 13.59 lakh. Both are starting and ex-showroom prices.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx
In comparison to 9,863 units sold the previous month, Maruti Suzuki delivered 12,681 units of the Fronx in May 2024, representing a 29% YoY increase. The SUV comes with two different engine options: a 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol and a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol. It includes several amenities such as automated climate control, an auto-dimming IRVM, wireless charging, a multi-functional steering wheel, a HUD display, rear air vents, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and cruise control. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is priced between Rs 7.52 lakh and Rs 12.88 lakh (both, ex-showroom).
