Top 5 Best-selling SUVs in First Half of 2024: Tata Punch, Hyundai Creta, and More

The Tata Punch was the best-selling SUV during the first half of 2024. It experienced a YoY growth of 64.35%, with a total of 1.10 lakh units sold.

The Tata Punch was India's most popular SUV option during the first half of 2024. It sold 1.10 lakh units, representing a year-on-year increase of 64.35% over the 67,117 units sold in the same period in 2023. The compact Tata car was joined by the Hyundai Creta and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza on the list, both with positive YoY growth of 10.64% and 9.68%, respectively. Regarding the overall segment, SUVs sold 9.86 lakh units between January and June of this year, marking a growth of 2.15 lakh units from the previous year's 7.71 lakh units. Here are some of the best-selling models that helped the SUV segment achieve positive sales in H1 2024.

Tata Punch 

The Punch remained the most popular car and SUV throughout the first half of the calendar year, dominating the sales rankings almost every month. In India, the SUV comes with a variety of powertrain setups, including an electric version that was introduced to the lineup in January 2024. The ICE variant of the SUV starts at Rs 6.13 lakh, while the EV version begins at Rs 10,99 lakh. Both are ex-showroom prices.

Hyundai Creta

The Hyundai Creta, which sold 91,348 units, was the second best-seller in H1 2024. It witnessed a volume gain of 8,782 units, with over 82,566 units sold in the same period of 2023. The compact SUV from Hyundai is available with three engine options: a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. It retails between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 20 lakh in India (both, ex-showroom).

Maruti Suzuki Brezza

The third place on the list of SUVs with the highest sales belongs to the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. The car sold 90,135 units in the first six months of the calendar year, compared to 82,183 units delivered in H1 2023. It comes in four main variants: LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+, with a starting price of Rs 8.34 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that offers 102bhp and 137Nm. A CNG option is also on offer.

The Mahindra SUV saw a YoY increase of 63.97% in H1 2024, with 85,326 units sold. Last year at this time, the vehicle sold 52,036 units. This represents a volume increase of 33,290 units. The Scorpio-N has two engine options: a 2.2-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol. In contrast, Scorpio, the Classic version is available with a single 2.2-litre diesel unit. Price-wise, the former is priced at Rs 13.85 lakh, while the latter costs Rs 13.62 lakh. Both are starting and ex-showroom prices.

Tata Nexon

Despite an 8.20% year-on-year dip, the Nexon emerged as the fifth best-selling SUV in the first half of 2024. It sold 80,326 units, compared to 87,501 units in H1 2023. Mechanically, the SUV is available with multiple powertrains, including petrol, CNG, and electric. The Nexon ICE costs 8 lakh, while the electric version is priced at Rs 14.49 lakh. These are starting and ex-showroom figures.
