The Maruti Suzuki Dzire remained the best-selling sedan in India in August 2024, despite a year-on-year drop in sales. It accounted for 42.96% of total sedan sales, showing its continued dominance in the sector. The Hyundai Aura ranked second, while the Honda Amaze finished third on the sales chart. Maruti Suzuki Dzire
The Dzire sold 10,627 units last month, representing a 20.6% decline from the 13,293 units sold in the same month in 2023. The sedan has four variants: ZXi, ZXi+, VXi, and LXi, and is priced between Rs 6.57 lakh to Rs 9.34 lakh (ex-showroom). It is powered by a 1.2-liter Dualjet petrol engine that produces 89bhp and 113Nm and comes mated to a five-speed manual or AMT gearbox. When driven by CNG, the same mill produces 76bhp and 98.5Nm while using a five-speed MT gearbox.
Hyundai Aura
The Hyundai Aura maintained its position as the nation's second-best-selling sedan in August. The Hyundai car sold 4,304 units, showing a 12.02% drop from 4,892 units sold the previous year. The subcompact sedan is available in six monochromatic exterior paint schemes and has a starting price of Rs 6.49 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. Mechanically, the Aura's 1.2-litre engine generates 114Nm of peak torque and 82bhp of maximum power when paired with an AMT or five-speed manual transmission. However, while using compressed natural gas (CNG), the same unit offers 68bhp and 95Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
Honda Amaze
The Amaze finished third on the list, with 2,585 units sold. Compared to 3,564 units sold in the same month last year, there was a YoY decrease of 27.47%. The sub-4m car has a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 110Nm and 88bhp, mated to a CVT or five-speed manual. It has three core variants (E, S, and VX), and is priced between Rs 7.20 lakh and Rs 9.96 lakh (both, ex-showroom).
Volkswagen Virtus
The Volkswagen Virtus ranked fourth with 1,876 units sold last month, despite a YoY decline of 12.34%. For reference, the car sold 2,140 units in August of last year. The Virtus comes with two petrol engine options in our market: a 1.0-litre mill with 113bhp and a 1.5-liter unit with 148bhp. It costs between Rs 10.90 lakh to Rs 19.41 lakh (both, ex-showroom).

Hyundai Verna
The Hyundai Verna surpassed the Tata Tigor to become the fifth best-selling sedan in India. It sold 1,194 units, down 53.65% from 2,576 units sold in the same period last year. The Hyundai sedan features petrol engine options: a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with 158bhp and a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated unit with 113bhp. It retails between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 17.42 lakh. These are ex-showroom prices.
