Maruti Suzuki sold the highest number of hatchbacks in July 2024, with three models among the top five best-sellers. The new-generation Swift remained the best-selling vehicle in the category, selling 16,854 units. The WagonR, Baleno, and Alto ranked second, third, and fourth, with 16,191 units, 9,309 units, and 7,353 units, respectively. Maruti Suzuki was also the best-selling car brand in July 2024. It sold 1.37 lakh units, down from 1.52 lakh in July 2023, showing a 9.6% decrease. Let's take a closer look at the top five best-selling hatchbacks of July this year.
Maruti Suzuki Swift
Despite a 5.82% YoY dip, the new Swift emerged as the best-selling vehicle in the segment. It has a Z-series 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 80bhp at 5,700rpm and 112Nm at 4,300rpm. Both a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic are available as options for transmission chores. The Maruti Suzuki hatch has five variants ( LXi, VXi, VXi (O) ZXi, and ZXi+), and is priced between Rs 6.49 lakh and Rs 9.64 lakh (both, ex-showroom). It competes with the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and the Tata Tiago in the market.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR
From third place in June 2024 sales, the WagonR jumped to second position last month. It saw a positive YoY growth of 24.83%. The WagonR offers two engine options: a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol (67bhp/90Nm) and a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol (82bhp/113Nm). A CNG option is also available. The car is built on Maruti Suzuki's Heartect platform. It is priced between Rs 5.55 lakh and Rs 7.33 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Maruti Suzuki Baleno
The Baleno dropped to the third spot on this list from second in June 2024. The hatch sold 16,725 units in July 2023, which was greater than in July of this year, resulting in a YoY decrease of 44.34%. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno sports a 1.2-litre Dual-Jet petrol engine (89bhp/113Nm) that can be mated to either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic gearbox. It also comes with a CNG powertrain. The price of the Maruti Suzuki car ranges between Rs 6.66 lakh and Rs 9.83 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Maruti Suzuki Alto
The Alto was the fourth-best-selling hatch in July, with a year-on-year growth of 3.58%. It has a 1-litre Dualjet petrol engine that produces 66bhp and 89Nm, mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. A CNG option is also available. The hatch is priced between Rs 3.99 lakh and Rs 5.96 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It is available in four core variants: Std, LXi, VXi, and VXi Plus.

Tata Tiago/EV
In July 2024, the Tata Tiago, available in petrol, electric, and CNG powertrain options, ranked fifth among the top five best-selling hatchbacks. It saw a 36.93% YoY drop last month, selling 5,665 units, compared to 8,982 units in July 2023. The ICE-powered hatchback is priced at Rs 5.65 lakh, while the electric model costs Rs 7.99 lakh. Both are starting and ex-showroom prices.
