Compact SUVs command a sizable portion of India's automotive market. In August 2024, the Hyundai Creta emerged as the best-selling compact SUV, with 16,762 units sold. It outperformed the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Kia Seltos, which sold 9,021 and 6,536 units, respectively. In terms of total SUV sales, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza was the top performer, with 19,190 models sold last month, representing a 31.69% YoY increase. Coming back to the compact SUV segment, here's a list of the top 5 best performers last month.

Hyundai Creta
The Creta sold 16,762 units last month, up from 13,832 last year, representing a 21.18% year-over-year rise. On a mechanical level, the Creta offers three engine options: a 1.5-litre normally aspirated (NA) petrol, a 1.5-litre diesel, and a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol. It is priced between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 20.15 lakh. These are ex-showroom prices.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara
The Grand Vitara was the second-best-selling model in the compact SUV market, despite a YoY decline of 23.67%. It sold 9,021 units last month, compared to 11,818 units sold in August of last year. The SUV has two powertrain options: a 1.5-litre petrol mild hybrid and a 1.5-litre petrol strong hybrid. Its price ranges from Rs 10.99 lakh to Rs 20.99 lakh (both, ex-showroom).
Kia Seltos
Compared to 10,698 units sold in August 2023, the Seltos SUV sold 6,536 units the previous month, showing a 38.90% year-on-year decrease. The Seltos features various powertrain options, including 1.5-liter petrol, 1.5-litre turbodiesel, and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol. It costs between Rs 10.90 lakh and 20.37 lakh (all ex-showroom).
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder
The Hyryder saw the highest YoY growth among the top five best-selling models, at 58.55%. It sold 6,534 units last month, up from 4,121 units sold in August 2023. The Toyota model has two petrol powertrain options (a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid and a 1.5-litre strong hybrid) and is priced between Rs 11.14 lakh and Rs 20.19 lakh. Both are ex-showroom figures.

Tata Curvv/EV
Despite being new to the segment, the Tata Curvv made it into the top five best-seller list. The vehicle sold 3,455 units last month. It comes in two versions: electric and ICE. Mechanically, the EV variant has a liquid-cooled Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMS) and two battery options (45kWh and 55kWh). The ICE version, on the other hand, has three engine options: 1.5-litre diesel, 1.2-litre direct injection turbocharged petrol (Hyperion), and 1.2-litre turbo-petrol (Revotron). The former is priced at Rs 17.49 lakh, while the latter costs Rs 10 lakh. These are the starting and ex-showroom prices.
