The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, an MPV, surpassed several well-known SUVs and hatchbacks to become the best-selling car in September 2024. It was followed by the Swift and Hyundai Creta, which sold 16,241 units and 15,902, units respectively. Compared to September of last year, the sales of these models increased by 1,538 and 3,185 units, respectively. Notably, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza (19,190 units) was the best-selling car in August 2024, while the Ertiga (18,580) ranked second. Both models showed positive YoY growths during that period. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga sold 17,441 units last month, representing a 28.93% increase over the 13,528 units supplied in September of the previous year. The MPV has four core variants ( LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+), and a 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology. The CNG powertrain is also available. Price-wise, the Maruti Suzuki car costs between Rs 8.69 lakh and Rs 13.03 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Suzuki Swift
In September 2024, the new-generation Swift was the second most popular car among buyers, selling 16,241 units. It saw a YoY rise of 10.46%. In August, the hatch sold 12,844 units, showing a favourable month-on-month increase. Powertrain-wise, the hatchback includes a Z-series 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol unit that produces 80bhp at 5,700rpm and 112Nm at 4,300rpm. The hatch is priced between Rs 6.49 lakh and Rs 9.60 lakh (both, ex-showroom).
Hyundai Creta
The Creta sold 15,902 units in September 2024, marking a rise of 25.05% from the previous year's 12,717 units. With 16,762 units supplied in the month of August, Hyundai's compact SUV had a month-on-month growth as well. Mechanically, the SUV boasts three engine options: a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol, a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel. It comes in seven variants: E, EX, S, S(O), SX, SX Tech, and SX(O). The price of the Hyundai SUV starts at Rs 11 lakh and goes up to Rs 20.15 lakh (both, ex-showroom).
Maruti Suzuki Brezza
The Brezza fell from the top spot in August to the fourth position in September on the list of best-selling cars. Compared to 15,001 units sold in September of last year, the SUV sold 15,322 units in the previous month, registering a marginal rise of 2.14%.
The car is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine that churns out a maximum power of 101.5bhp and a peak torque of 137Nm. It has four variants (LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+), and is priced between Rs 8.34 lakh and Rs 14.14 lakh. Both are ex-showroom figures.

Mahindra Scorpio, Scorpio-N
The well-liked Mahindra SUV recorded a 21.88% increase year-on-year last month. It sold 14,438 units, as opposed to 11,846 units in September 2023. The Scorpio classic packs a single 2.2-litre diesel engine. The Scorpio-N, on the other hand, gets two engine options (a 2.2-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol). The former retails at Rs 13.62 lakh, while the latter costs Rs 13.85 lakh. Both are starting and ex-showroom prices.
