The first half of 2024 was exciting for both automakers and buyers, as several updated/new cars entered the market, including the revised Hyundai Creta, the new Tata Punch EV, and the next-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift. The Tata Punch SUV remained the most popular car among buyers during this period, followed by the Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Baleno, Dzire, and Hyundai Creta. Tata Punch
With strong sales in the majority of months, the Tata Punch emerged as the best-selling car in the first half of 2024. The SUV sold 1,10,308 units between January and June, registering an increase of 64% from 67,117 units sold in the first half of 2023. It is available in an array of powertrain options in India, including electric, which was added to the portfolio in January of this year. The ICE variant of the SUV starts at Rs 6.13 lakh, while the EV version begins at Rs 10,99 lakh. Both are ex-showroom prices.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR
The well-liked hatchback from Maruti Suzuki's lineup, the WagonR, was the second best-selling car in H1 2024. Compared to 1,09,278 units sold during the same period last year, the hatchback sold 99,668 units in the first half of the year, representing a 9% decrease. The Maruti Suzuki WagonR is priced between Rs 5.55 lakh and Rs 7.33 lakh in India (both, ex-showroom). The WagonR is equipped with two engine options: a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol and a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol. The former churns out 67bhp and 90Nm, while the latter makes 82bhp and 113Nm. Both engines come with manual and automatic transmissions. A CNG option is also available.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno
Despite a YoY decline of 6%, the Baleno hatch remained one of the best-selling cars between January and June 2024. The car sold 94,521 units in the first half of this year, compared to 1,00,107 units in H1 2023. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has a 1.2-litre Dual-Jet petrol engine (89bhp/113Nm), which can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. It is also available with a CNG powertrain. The hatchback is priced between Rs 6.66 lakh to Rs 9.83 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Maruti Suzuki Dzire
The Dzire was the fourth top-selling car in the first six months of 2024. With 93,811 units sold, the popular sedan registered a year-on-year growth of 30%. The Maruti Suzuki car packs a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine with 89bhp and 113Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT transmission. The same unit, mated to only a 5-speed MT gearbox, generates 76bhp and 98.5Nm while running on CNG. In India, the sedan's price ranges from Rs 6.57 lakh to Rs 9.34 lakh (both, ex-showroom).

Hyundai Creta
The new Hyundai Creta, which recently attained a sales milestone of one lakh units, was one of the top-selling models in the first half of the year. In comparison to the 82,566 units sold in the first half of 2023, the sales of the compact SUV increased to 91,348 units, or 11% in the H1 2024. The Hyundai model is available with three engine options: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol, a 1.5-litre diesel, and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol. It is priced between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 20 lakh in India (both, ex-showroom).
