Sales figures for December 2023 show a drop in market performance when compared to November 2023. After the festivities season in October, sales fell throughout the year. Tata has surpassed Hyundai in sales and is now the second-best-performing brand, marking a change in the rankings. The Tata Nexon sold 15,284 units, which is a lot, and it was the best-selling car of the month. Next on the list with 14,012 units is the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, while in third place with 13,787 units is the Tata Punch. With 12,975 units sold, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga takes fourth place, and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza completes the top five with 12,844 units.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza
Securing the 5th position among the best-selling cars in December 2023, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza SUV has also recently accomplished the remarkable feat of crossing the one million units sold milestone in India. Powering this SUV is a robust 1.5-litre petrol engine, delivering 102bhp of maximum power and 137Nm of torque. In contrast, the CNG variant's engine generates 86.6bhp and 121.5Nm of torque. The petrol model boasts a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the CNG version exclusively offers a 5-speed manual transmission. Furthermore, depending on the variant, the Brezza manual may feature a mild-hybrid system that improves fuel economy to an astounding 20.15 km/l.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga secured the fourth position in terms of sales, registering a robust domestic figure of 12,975 units. This MPV boasts a formidable 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine generating 102bhp and 137Nm of torque. For transmission, buyers have the option to choose between a 6-speed torque converter automatic or a 5-speed manual. Additionally, the Ertiga offers CNG variants, delivering 87bhp of power and 121Nm of torque.
Tata Punch
Despite competition from the recently launched Hyundai Exter in 2023, the Tata Punch has secured a spot among December 2023's top 5 best-selling cars, making it the second Tata vehicle on the list. The Punch offers two powertrain options—a 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine with 86.63bhp and 115Nm, available with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic transmission. In CNG mode, the engine produces 72bhp and 103Nm, paired exclusively with a 5-speed manual. This dual powertrain setup enhances the Tata Punch's appeal in a competitive market.

This engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. The vehicle is available exclusively with a 5-speed manual gearbox in its CNG version, which features a slightly decreased power of 76bhp and 98.5Nm.
Tata Nexon
The revamped Tata Nexon, with an introductory price tag of Rs 8.10 lakh (ex-showroom), was the best-selling vehicle in December 2023. When it comes to the technical aspects, the Tata Nexon keeps offering the same range of engine options. A 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 113bhp and 260Nm of torque is one of them. Another is a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 118bhp and 170Nm of torque.

The most significant improvement in this updated model is the increased selection of gearbox options for the turbo-petrol engine. Presently choices include a 6-speed manual, 5-speed manual, 6-speed AMT, and 7-speed DCT. The diesel engine, on the other hand, is available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. This gearbox upgrade makes the Tata Nexon more appealing and versatile.
