Despite an 8.4% YoY fall, Maruti Suzuki remained the best-selling car brand in August 2024. It sold 1.43 lakh units, compared to 1.56 lakh units in August last year. Following the Swift manufacturer, Hyundai ranked second on the sales chart with 49,525 units sold. Compared to 53,830 units supplied during the same time last year, this represented an 8% drop. Here's a detailed breakdown of the top five car brands that sold the most in August 2024.

Maruti Suzuki
Although Maruti Suzuki's sales fell year-on-year, they rose 4.1% month-on-month in August 2024. The company sold 1.37 lakh units in July, which was less than August's sales numbers. In addition, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza became the best-selling car and SUV last month with 19,190 sold. Compared to 14,572 units supplied in August of last year, this was an impressive 31.69% rise.

Hyundai
The August sales of Hyundai increased by 1% MoM, despite a YoY (8%) drop. For reference, 49,013 units were sold in July, compared to 49,525 units last month. With a 21.18% YoY rise, the Creta led the sales chart in the compact SUV segment. It sold 16,762 units, as opposed to 13,832 units in August 2023.
Tata Motors
The Nexon manufacturer, Tata was the third best-selling brand in August of this year. It had a 3% YoY decline in sales with 44,142 units sold. The sales decreased by 1.3% on a month-on-month basis as well. The company recently introduced the Curvv in India, which ranked fifth among the best-selling compact SUVs last month. While the ICE version (Rs 10 lakh) launched in September, the EV variant (Rs 17.49 lakh) went on sale in August of this year.
Mahindra
With 43,277 units sold in August 2024, Mahindra had an incredible YoY rise of 16%. The manufacturer also recorded a growth of 4% on a MoM basis. The Scorpio was the fourth most popular SUV in August, selling 13,787 units. It experienced an astonishing rise of 39.29% year-on-year.

Toyota
Toyota delivered 28,589 units in August, marking a 36.3% year-on-year gain. However, the company's sales fell by 3.2% month-on-month, with 29,533 sold in July of this year.
