Top 5 Best-selling Car Brands in April: Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and More

Maruti Suzuki maintained its dominance as the best-selling car brand in April 2024. It sold 1.38 lakh units last month, a significant increase over the previous year's sales. On the list, Hyundai, Tata Motors, and Mahindra came after the Indo-Japanese carmaker. Maruti Suzuki sells sedans, hatchbacks, MUVs, and SUVs through its Arena and Nexa showrooms in India. Its next major release for our market will be the next-generation Swift, with a new engine among other improvements. But first, let's look at how the domestic automaker fared with other companies at the start of the new fiscal year.

Maruti Suzuki

The company sold over 1.38 lakh cars in April, indicating a slight increase of 0.5% over the 1.37 lakh units sold in the same period the previous year. It experienced a drop of about 9.7% on a MoM basis.

Hyundai

With 50,201 units sold, Hyundai was the second-best-selling automaker in the previous month. Its MoM sales decreased by 5.3% while YoY growth was a mere 1%. The Korean automaker plans to introduce the 2024 Hyundai Alcazar facelift during the holiday season (September-October), according to the most recent market report. The current Hyundai Alcazar costs between Rs 16.78 lakh and Rs 21.28 lakh ex-showroom. You may anticipate a slight increase in these prices with updates to features and aesthetics.

Tata Motors 

Tata Nexon

In April, the company finished at the third position among top-selling automakers. It supplied 47,885 cars last month, which is a 1.9% year-on-year increase from 47,010 units sold in April 2023. However, its MoM sales fell by about 3,000 units (around 4.4%).

Mahindra

Mahindra Scorpio N

Mahindra delivered more than 41,000 units in the previous month. It is the only company on this list that achieved a favourable month-over-month rise, with 0.9%. However, the carmaker's YoY sales surged by roughly 18.2%. Mahindra launched the much-anticipated last month in India for Rs 7.49 lakh (starting, ex-showroom).

Kia 

Kia Sonet

With 19,968 deliveries, Kia ranked as the fifth best-selling automaker in April 2024. Its YoY and MoM sales dropped by around 14% and 6.7%, respectively. Last month, Kia India revealed that over 4 lakh Sonet SUVs had been sold. The model reached this significant milestone within four years of its introduction in both domestic and international markets.
