Top 5 Affordable Electric Cars in India: Tata Tiago, Mahindra XUV400, and More

Tata Tiago EV
In September 2022, Tata Motors launched the Tiago EV, its most affordable electric car. The cost of the electric hatchback ranges from Rs 8.69 to Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The car comes in four different variants: the XE, XT, XZ+, and XZ+ Tech LUX.
A permanent magnet synchronous motor with two battery pack options—19.2kWh and 24kWh—powers the Tata Tiago EV mechanically. Its larger battery produces 73bhp of maximum power and 114Nm of peak torque, while the smaller battery generates a maximum output of 60bhp and 110Nm. The entry-level Tiago EV models have a lower battery pack, which gives them an MIDC range of 250 kilometre, whereas the higher trims have a bigger battery pack, which offers them a 315-kilometre of MIDC range. Both battery packs can be charged from 10% to 80% in 57 minutes by using a 50kW fast charger.

Tata Tigor EV
The second most reasonably priced vehicle on this list is the Tata Tigor EV. The cost of the compact sedan's electric version ranges from Rs 12.49 lakh to Rs 13.75 lakh (ex-showroom). The XE, XT, XZ+, and XZ+ Tech LUX variants of the car are available in India. A 26kWh lithium-ion battery powers the permanent magnet synchronous motor, which produces 74bhp of peak power and 170Nm of maximum torque.
Tata Nexon EV
Another model from Tata Motors on the list is the popular Nexon EV. The Nexon EV range starts at Rs 14.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 20.04 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-of-the-line model. The electric compact SUV comes in three trim levels: XM, XZ+, and XZ+ LUX. A 30.2kWh Lithium Ion Polymer battery pack powers the Nexon EV Prime, producing 127bhp of power and 245Nm of torque. The Nexon EV Max, on the other hand, is equipped with a 40.5kWh lithium-ion battery pack to produce 141bhp and 250Nm of peak torque.
Mahindra XUV400
The latest model on this list and the fourth most affordable one overall is the recently launched Mahindra XUV400. The cost of the electric SUV ranges from Rs 15.99 lakh to Rs 19.19 lakh (ex-showroom). The engine has a maximum power output of 147.5bhp and a peak torque of 310Nm. The XUV400 can reach a top speed of 150km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 8.3 seconds thanks to these figures. According to the MIDC, the XUV400 EL has a driving range of 456 kilometre on a single full charge, while the XUV400 EC has a driving range of 375 kilometre.
The Mahindra XUV400 includes a rearview camera, an electric sunroof, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, up to six airbags, four-wheel disc brakes, and compatibility with BlueSense Plus mobile apps, which enable 60+ connectivity features such as over-the-air (OTA) updates. The XUV400 also has three drive modes: Fun, Fast, and Fearless, which modify the steering, throttle, and regenerative energy responses.

MG ZS EV
The next model on this list is the ZS EV from MG, which costs between Rs 22.98 lakh and Rs 26.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Excite and Exclusive variants are available for the MG electric SUV. There are two battery pack options for the car: a 44.5kWh unit and a 50.3kWh unit. The 44.5kWh version's three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor produces 353Nm of peak torque and 141bhp of maximum power at 3,500rpm. The variant with the larger 50.3kWh battery pack produces 174bhp of power and 280Nm of maximum torque.
