SUVs are undoubtedly the strongest category in the Indian automotive sector. Owing to the large body type, these vehicles witness maximum demand in our market. Feature-richness, enhanced ground clearance, and rugged structure are other reasons behind the rising popularity of SUVs among Indian buyers. With the growing popularity of SUVs in the country, carmakers like Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki, and Tata Motors keep updating their respective model line-ups. Here are the top 4 SUVs that will enter our market shortly. Let's take a look at their features and what they have to offer.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door
Maruti Suzuki will presumably bring the new Jimny to India by May 2023. The carmaker has not made announcements yet, but market reports reveal that the upcoming SUV will retail between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 14 lakh in India. Both prices are ex-showroom. For now, we know that mechanically the SUV will be powered by a 1.5-litre K15B 4-cylinder petrol engine, capable of producing 103bhp and 134.2Nm. For transmission, it will use either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic.

The upcoming Jimny will be 3,985mm in length, 1,645mm in width, and 1,720mm in height. It will have a 208-litre boot space and a 2,590mm of wheelbase, which will be 300mm longer than that of the 3-door version. After the launch in our market, the Jimny in a five-door avatar will lock horns with the Mahindra Thar and the Force Gurkha, both of which will also make their 5-door debuts shortly in India.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx
Another model from Maruti Suzuki is the highly-anticipated Fronx crossover, which will likely be launched in April. The model will be driven by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, capable of generating 99bhp and 147Nm, and a 1.2-litre petrol unit, capable of delivering 89bhp and 113Nm. For transmission, buyers can select between an AMT, a 6-speed automatic, and a 5-speed manual.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx will have five trims: Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta, and Alpha. On the price front, the upcoming Fronx is expected to cost between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 14 Lakh. All prices are ex-showroom. The crossover will compete with the Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Tata Punch, and more in India.
Hyundai Ai3
Hyundai India will reportedly launch a brand-new micro SUV codenamed Ai3 in India. There is no official update yet, but industry reports hint that the upcoming small SUV will be powered via a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine capable of delivering 83bhp. The compact SUV will sit below the Hyundai Venue in the company's line-up. In terms of market competition, the upcoming micro SUV will lock horns with the Nissan Magnite, Tata Punch, Renault Kiger, and more. It is likely to be priced under Rs 15 lakh in our market.

New Tata Nexon
The new Tata Nexon will expectedly hit Indian roads this year or in early 2024. Tata Motors has not disclosed any exact information concerning the improvements yet. But, according to industry speculations, the upcoming compact SUV will have several modifications, including design, interior, and a new turbo petrol engine. Reports further indicate that the new Nexon will have the design elements of the Curvv SUV Coupe. Mechanically, the compact SUV will come equipped with a new 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, capable of producing 123bhp and 225Nm.
