The Alto 800 proved its might once again on the sales charts, while demand for the new Hyundai Creta has really surged ahead.

The July new car sales report is finally out and we get to take a look for ourselves to see just what Maruti Suzuki was talking about when they mentioned their 1.3 per cent sales growth in the month gone by. Straight off the bat, we can see here that the number one bestselling car for July 2020 was India’s favourite sub-compact car, the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800. In fact, at 13,654 units it registered a sales growth of 87.1 per cent over the June 2020 numbers.  It’s worth noting that the ongoing pandemic has steered everyone clear of public transport and its entry-level cars such as the Alto 800 that have become winners in the situation. Unsurprisingly, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR took the second spot on the sales chart for July 2020 with a close 13,515 units.  In typical Maruti Suzuki fashion, the top three bestsellers were rounded up for the month of July by the Baleno at 11,575 units.

What came as a big surprise after this was the Hyundai Creta racking up 11,549 units on the sales chart, which is considerably higher than the Kia Seltos which recorded sales of 8,270 units during the same period. The rest of the top-10 were rounded up by the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Dzire, Ertiga, Eeco, Hyundai Grand i10 and Kia Seltos, respectively.

Here’s a look at the bestsellers for the month gone by in context to sales during the earlier month of June 2020:
