The latest generation of Mercedes-Benz’s A-Class claims to provide the luxury of a sedan and the performance of a small powerful hatchback with the addition of 4Matic – Mercedes’s AWD technology.

The year was 2012 when Mercedes-Benz finally answered the need of the hour by launching the A-Class – its offering to the world of premium hatchbacks. What happened next is something we are all familiar with. It seems that the German luxury carmaker has decided to enable the kid in the family to grow with time. Welcome the latest generation of the A-Class studded with 4Matic technology.

According to the recent developments, Mercedes-Benz has decided to offer five diesel variants including a 4Matic trim, and five petrol variants including one AMG variant and two 4Matic versions. Mercedes will also offer a special ‘Motorsport Edition’ of the models A 220 d 4Matic and above to motorsport enthusiasts.

The A 180 d and A 180 d SE trims will be powered by a 1,461cc inline four-cylinder engine delivering 109bhp of power. A 2,143cc diesel engine will cater to the A 200 d, A 220 d and A 220 d 4Matic delivering a power output of 136bhp for the A 200 d, and 177bhp for the A 220 d and A 220 d 4Matic trims. The petrol versions – A 180 and A200 – are powered by a 1,595cc engine which delivers 122bhp in the case of A 180, and 156bhp for A 200. However, things change for good as we move up to the A 250 AMG, A 250 4Matic, and the A 45 4Matic versions. The 1,991cc, inline four, petrol engine delivers 218bhp of power to the A 250 AMG and A 250 AMG 4Matic trims, where it delivers a massive 381bhp of power to the A 45 4Matic trim.

Some of the new additions include a diamond grille, new LED High Performance headlamps (optional, but standard for the A 45) and newly designed rear lights with exhaust tailpipes which are neatly integrated into the bumper. The new generation of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class retains the sportiness and dynamism for which the A-Class is known for. The models above the sport line-up will have Dynamic Select mode and 7G-DCT gearbox as standard fitments. The driver will be able to choose between four driving modes – Comfort, Sport, Eco and Individual – with the help of the Dynamic Select.

Mercedes-Benz will start accepting orders of the new A-Class July onwards and you can expect the car to reach dealerships across the world somewhere in September 2015.
