Recently unveiled by Mercedes, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 will be powered by a 6.3-litre V8 engine, and will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
I have lost count of the number of beauties which will make their debut at the Geneva Motor Show starting from March 3, 2015. The latest car to join the queue is a V8 AMG machine, if you know what I am trying to say. Developed keeping in mind the norms laid down by FIA, the AMG GT3 will compete at the international level in 2016 in various races held across the world. The car has been developed based on the AMG GT which will also be launched in some days’ time and also resonated with track performance.
The design of the AMG GT3 provides some of the key elements to perform well on a track like low centre of gravity, balanced weight distribution and wide track width which result in attributes like precise cornering, high lateral acceleration, brilliant agility and better traction.
Instead of putting the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 from the GT, Mercedes has decided to go with higher displacement engine from the SLS AMG GT3, clubbing it with a six-speed sequential gearbox and getting rid of the turbos. To reduce the weight further, Mercedes has decided to use carbon fibre as the raw material for many of its panels. The matte finish, the front grille, large air intakes and a huge rear aerofoil just make this car look as if it’s eager to eat the competition.
The frame of the GT3 is made of extremely light yet extremely sturdy aluminium. The resilient carbon fibre seat pan and an integral roll-over cage made from high-tensile steel keep the driver safe in most of the situations. Other contributing factors for such less weight of the car are carbon fibre front and rear aprons, side skirts, doors, bootlid rear aerofoil, front wing and the engine cover.
Commenting on the car, Tobias Moers, Chairman – Board of Management, Mercedes-AMG GmbH said, “We are entering a hard-fought and hotly contested competitive environment with the new Mercedes-AMG GT3. The high technological standard and fair race rules are spurring us on to push to take pole position with our new customer racing car. You can only give credible proof of your ambition to lead if you're beating the very best in the game.”
