At the 'We, Robot' event, Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled the CyberCab, an autonomous self-driving robotaxi, designed to change urban transportation. The event was held at Warner Bros. Studios near Los Angeles. The design of the CyberCab draws inspiration from the Tesla Cybertruck. It features two doors and uniquely offers only two front seats, lacking a second row. This self-driving vehicle aims to provide passengers with a convenient and efficient ride. Musk has announced that production of the CyberCab will commence in 2026, with the upcoming robotaxi expected to be priced below USD 30,000 (about Rs 25.22 lakh). By optimising routes and utilising the company's extensive charging network, the robotaxi is expected to help reduce traffic congestion and lower emissions. Read on to learn more.

During the event, Musk revealed that Tesla is poised to move from monitored Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology to a completely unsupervised version. He emphasised that Tesla is ready to take this next step and expects to begin deploying fully autonomous, unsupervised FSD vehicles in Texas and California by next year.
The robotaxi is designed specifically as an autonomous vehicle, omitting a steering wheel and pedals, which means it will require regulatory approval before production can begin. Its futuristic design features doors that open upward like butterfly wings and a compact cabin designed for just two passengers. There are no steering controls or pedals, and it does not have a plug – Musk noted that the vehicle charges inductively, allowing for wireless power restoration. The CyberCab sports a light bar each at the front and rear, and large wheels with big disc-like covers as well. Moreover, the dashboard only has a screen in the centre.
Elon Musk also stated that autonomous cars are anticipated to be 10 to 20 times safer than those driven by humans and could cost as little as USD 0.20 (about Rs 16.81) per mile, compared to USD 1 (roughly Rs 84.06) per mile for city buses.

Tesla aims to launch fully autonomous driving in Texas and California next year, with CyberCab production slated for 2026, although it could be delayed until 2027. Apart from this, the EV maker is working on the Optimus robot, which may be priced between USD 20,000 (about Rs 16.81 lakh) and USD 30,000 (roughly Rs 25.22 lakh), capable of performing a range of tasks.
