Tata will only offer the Punch with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol motor. The Punch will go on sale in four variants with two transmission options – a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT.
After nearly two months of teasing and gradually releasing information, Tata has finally revealed that the all-new Punch will be launched on 18th October. Bookings for the micro-SUV already commenced on 4th October.
Tata pulled the wraps off the Punch – the production-spec iteration of the HBX concept – earlier this month. The micro-SUV is 3,827mm long, 1,742mm wide, and 1,615mm tall, which means that it is larger than the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100. The dimensions, of course, result in a roomier cabin. Tata has also fitted the Punch with 90-degree opening doors, which makes ingress and egress an easy affair.
In terms of design, the Punch borrows its design cues from the larger Nexon and Harrier. While the gloss black grille seems to be inspired by the Nexon, the large headlamps under the DRLs is clearly a page borrowed from the Harrier’s design book. The rear-end of the Punch looks sharp, thanks to its well-chiselled lines. The tuning-fork shaped LED taillamps further add to its modern appeal.
In terms of power, the Punch makes 85bhp and 113Nm from a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated motor. This engine will come paired with a 5-speed manual as well as a 5-speed AMT. The higher-end trims of the Punch will come fitted with 16-inch alloy wheels, while the lower-spec models will sport 15-inch wheels.
The top-end Punch will come loaded with features like a 7.0-inch instrument cluster, climate control, automatic headlamps, auto-folding ORVMs, rain-sensing wipers, rear wash/wipe, puddle lamps, and cooled glove box. Tata will have the Punch on sale in four different custom packs – Pure, Adventure, Accomplished, and Creative. Only the Creative pack will be on sale with a dual-tone paint scheme. Expect the Punch to be priced in the Rs 5 – 8 lakh range.
