Tata Punch Beats Creta, Brezza, Scorpio-N and More to Become Best-selling SUV in June

In June 2024, the Tata Punch surpassed many popular models on the market, such as the Creta, Brezza, Scorpio-N, and Nexon, to become the best-selling SUV. While its sales decreased month-over-month (MoM), they rose year-on-year by 66%. India's car market is divided into several segments, with SUVs vying for the majority of sales. In comparison to their counterparts, SUVs provide users with extra space, ease, and comfort. They come in a variety of sizes to suit the demands of buyers. With the growing volume and range of SUVs in India, let's look at the models that finished in the top five on the sales charts.

Tata Punch

The Tata Punch sold 18,238 units in June 2024, up 66% from 10,990 in the same period last year. The SUV is available in two versions: ICE and electric. The former features a 1.2-litre petrol engine with 86.7bhp, while the latter offers 25kWh and 35kWh battery options. The prices for the ICE and EV variants start at Rs 6.13 lakh and Rs 10,99 lakh, respectively. Both are ex-showroom figures.

The Creta was the second-best-selling SUV, with 16,293 units sold last month. It achieved a YoY growth of 12.78%. The Hyundai SUV offers three engine choices: 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel. It is available in seven core variants – E, EX, S, S(O), SX, SX Tech, and SX(O). Price-wise, the SUV retails between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 20 lakh. Both are ex-showroom prices.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza experienced significant year-over-year rise of 24.52% this June. It sold 13,172 units, as compared to 10,578 units in June 2023. The SUV is offered in four main variants: LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+, with a starting price of Rs 8.34 lakh (ex-showroom). Mechanically, it comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that offers 102bhp and 137Nm. A CNG option is also available. 

Mahindra Scorpio/N

Mahindra Scorpio N

Mahindra's Scorpio, which comes in N and Classic versions, was the fourth SUV on the list with high market demand. The SUV sold 12,307 units in the previous month, a notable 42.31% YoY increase from 8,648 units in June 2023. The Scorpio-N sports two engine options: a 2.2-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol. In comparison, the Classic version is available with a single 2.2-litre diesel unit. The price of the former starts at Rs 13.8 lakh, while the latter begins at Rs 13.62 lakh. Both are ex-showroom figures.

Tata Nexon

Tata Nexon

Despite a YoY dip of 12.74%, the Tata Nexon ranked fifth on the list. It sold 12,066 units last month, as opposed to 13,827 in June 2023. The SUV offers a range of powertrain options, including petrol, CNG, and electric. The electric variant costs 14.49 lakh, whereas the ICE version is priced at Rs 8 lakh. These are starting and ex-showroom prices.
