On September 14, Tata Motors launched the redesigned Tata Nexon.ev in India, alongside its updated ICE sibling, the Nexon Facelift. The electrified Nexon has undergone a facelift and is priced between Rs 14.74 lakh and Rs 19.94 lakh (ex-showroom). It is a direct competitor to the Mahindra XUV400, another popular sub-4 metre SUV in the Indian market. Choosing an electric vehicle in a market dominated by ICE vehicles is already a difficult decision. Furthermore, selecting an electric vehicle from the plethora of options available can be even more challenging. If you are looking to buy an electric SUV under the sub-4 metre segment, the newly introduced Tata Nexon.ev and the Mahindra XUV400 are the ideal options. However, before making a decision, let's compare these two electric SUVs on various factors.

Tata Nexon.ev vs Mahindra XUV400: Battery and Range

The Tata Nexon.ev is available in two versions in our market - Medium-Range (MR) and Long-Range (LR). The Nexon.ev MR comes with a 30.2kWh battery pack while the LR variant has a 40.5kWh battery. The 40.5kWh battery pack can deliver 141bhp of maximum power and a peak torque of 215Nm, whereas the 30.2kWh battery pack can produce 127bhp of peak power and 215Nm of maximum torque. The vehicle comes equipped with a Gen2 permanent magnet synchronous motor that is lighter, cleaner, and more efficient.

According to MIDC, the MR version and LR version of the EV can travel up to 325 kilometre and 465 kilometre, respectively, on a single charge. Both versions support 7.2kWh rapid charging and allow for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-grid charging. The company claims that the improved aerodynamics of the EV enables it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 150 km/h.

There are two trim levels available for the Mahindra XUV400 EV, namely the EC and the EL. This e-SUV is equipped with one electric motor and offers two battery pack configurations. The electric motor generates 150bhp and 310Nm. The EL variant is fitted with a larger 39.4kWh battery and boasts a range of 456 kilometres, while the EC model features a smaller 34.5kWh battery and has a range of 375 kilometres. The Mahindra EV can accelerate to 100 km/h in just 8.3 seconds, which is 0.6 seconds faster than its main rival, the Nexon EV.

The electric Tata Nexon is packed with various features such as a co-passenger seat that can be adjusted for height, an updated ZConnect app, a 360-degree camera, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for OTT apps and games, a fully digital instrument cluster of 10.25-inch, Hey Tata voice assistant that is compatible with Alexa, Google, and Siri, a nine-speaker JBL sound system, and much more.

The Mahindra vehicle, on the other hand, is equipped with features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with over 50 connected car features, smartwatch connectivity, cruise control, and wireless phone charging. Safety features include six airbags, ESP, hill hold control, TPMS, an auto-dimming IRVM, and a rearview camera. The e-SUV is also equipped with four speakers, two tweeters, and a USB charging port.

The Nexon EV facelift has a wheelbase of 2,498mm and measures 3,994mm in length, 1,811mm in width, and 1,616mm in height. In contrast, the XUV400 has a wheelbase of 2,600mm and is 4,200mm in length, 1,821mm in width, and 1,634mm in height.

Tata Nexon.ev vs Mahindra XUV400: Price

The Tata Nexon EV comes in two different powertrain variants: Long Range and Mid Range. It is also available in six trim levels, which are Creative Plus, Fearless, Fearless Plus, Fearless Plus S, Empowered, and Empowered Plus. The prices of these variants range from 14.74 lakh to 19.94 lakh (ex-showroom). On the other hand, the Mahindra XUV400 offers three different trims: EC Standard, EC Fast, and EL (Long Range). The standard EC variants are priced between Rs 15.99 lakh and Rs 16.49 lakh, while the EL versions cost ranges from Rs 19.19 lakh to Rs 19.39 lakh. All prices mentioned are ex-showroom figures.
