The Tata Nexon i-CNG, in its concept form, made its India debut at this year's inaugural Bharat Mobility Expo held in New Delhi. In the current financial year 2024–25, India will witness Tata bring in the production-spec Nexon i-CNG, eventually joining other powertrain options in the line-up – electric, diesel, and petrol.

While the Tata Nexon i-CNG carries over exterior and interior bits, as well as equipment from the petrol/diesel-powered Nexon SUV, it comes with some CNG-specific cosmetic and mechanical changes. Speaking of the latter, the Nexon iCNG gets the same 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with twin-cylinder CNG technology, making it the first vehicle to do so. The power and torque figures of the CNG version are yet to be revealed. For your reference, the turbo-petrol engine in the ICE-powered vehicle generates 118bhp and 170Nm.

As for the transmission, it remains to be seen whether the Tata Nexon iCNG will come with an automatic gearbox like the Tiago and Tigor CNG models. The estimated capacity of the CNG cylinders is 60 litres, while the boot space stands at 230 litres. In terms of equipment, the Nexon i-CNG offers leakage-proof materials, a leak detection feature, thermal incident protection, a single advanced ECU, direct start in CNG mode, an auto switch between fuels, a micro switch, and a modular fuel filter.

Expect the Tata Nexon iCNG to be priced in the range of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). With such pricing, the Nexon iCNG is set to go against the Hyundai Exter, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG.

Tata to Launch Two More Models by FY2025

Tata has plans to launch four new EVs – Curvv EV, Harrier EV, Sierra EV, and Avinya EV – by FY2026 in India. Of these 4, the first two will be launched by March 2025. Tata's first SUV coupe, the Currv EV will rival the MG ZS EV and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV. It will be based on the acti.ev dedicated electric car platform that debuted on the Punch EV. Though the powertrain details are under wraps, it is expected to have a range of about 500km.

Based on the same platform as other Tata EVs, the electrified Harrier could pack a 60kWh battery pack, yielding a 400 to 500km range. Tata's Harrier EV was recently spotted testing in India, indicating that the upcoming EV will get an all-wheel drive option with electric motors – one on the front and another on the rear axle. Upon arrival, the Tata Harrier EV will lock horns with the BYD Atto 3 and the upcoming Mahindra XUV.e8.
