Here's everything you need to know about Tata's upcoming Nexon compact-SUV.
At the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, Tata Motors revealed the near production-ready version of the Nexon concept from 2014. The sub-4m SUV is now undergoing final stages of testing as the test mules have been spotted plying on the country’s roads many times in the last few months. Expected to go on sale during the second half of 2017, here’s a detailed look at the design, features and engine specifications of Tata’s upcoming compact-SUV,
Design: The Tata Nexon was first shown as a concept at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, while the production-ready version made its debut at the 2016 edition of the country’s bi-annual motor show. Design wise, you really have to give it to Tata since the production version looks nearly identical to the concept. The compact and butch looks of the Nexon are accentuated by a wide front bumper, a large honeycomb grille, swept back projector headlamps and a coupe-like silhouette. The dual-tone paintjob makes it look funky and youthful, it’s to be said. Around the back, the Nexon sports LED tail-lamps, a stubby bumper and a small windscreen. The Nexon will have a ground clearance in excess of 200mm. On the inside, the Nexon’s cabin is expected to borrow the design and layout of the Bolt/Zest’s interior, although it will add a number of new features to the existing equipment list.
Features: The Tata Nexon will come loaded to the gills with features, or so we’re told. The main highlight will be a new 6.5 inch Harman-Kardon touchscreen display that is coupled to 8 speakers in the Nexon. Among other standout features, it will come with automatic climate control, three driving modes, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, 16-inch alloy wheels and a lot more equipment.
Engine & Gearbox: There will be two engine options on offer - a brand new 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine with a rated power output of around 108bhp and 260Nm of torque, and a 1.2-litre Revotron turbo petrol engine. A brand new 6-speed manual gearbox has been developed for the Nexon while AMT (automated manual transmission) will also be offered with both petrol and diesel versions.
Expected Price, Launch Date & Competition: The Tata Nexon will be pitched squarely against established rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. As a result, expect its prices to hover around Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9 lakh. The Tata Nexon is expected to be launched around June 2017.
