The Nexon will be the first compact SUV to go fully electric and will also be the first car to feature Tata’s Ziptron electric powertrain that will offer a driving range of 250-300km on a single charge.
Just a few months ago, Tata Motors revealed their new Ziptron technology. Now, the Nexon EV will be the first car to be based on this new electric powertrain.
The fully electric Nexon will use an IP67 certified lithium-ion battery pack, which promises a driving range between of 300km on a single full charge of the battery. To make sure the car is efficient, the Nexon EV will also feature brake regeneration. The new Ziptron technology features a Battery Management System (BMS) that promises extended life and Tata has announced an 8-year warranty for the battery. The Nexon EV also features a permanent magnet AC motor that has been tested for more than 1 million kilometres.
The drivetrain will also allow the Nexon EV to race from 0-60km/h in 4.8 seconds, and from 0-100km/h in just 9.9 seconds. Peak torque is rated at 245Nm.
The Tata Nexon EV will come in three variants – the EV XM, EV XZ+, and EV XZ+ LUX. All variants will come with full auto climate control, automatic transmission with Drive and Sport Mode, dual airbags, ABS and EBD, a telematics app and keyless entry and push start/stop. The EV XZ+ will get contrast dual-tone roof colour, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen, and reverse park assist. The high-end EV XZ+ LUX gets a sunroof, premium leather seats and automatic headlights and rain-sensing wipers.
The new Tata Nexon EV will be priced between ₹15-17 lakh ex-showroom and will be launched in a few weeks. Stay tuned for more info coming your way.
