The Tata Nexon CNG and Tata Punch CNG are two highly anticipated CNG variants from Tata Motors, aimed at offering eco-friendly options in their respective segments. While both vehicles share Tata’s robust design language and a commitment to sustainability, they cater to different market segments. Being an SUV, the Nexon CNG offers more power and features, appealing to buyers looking for a spacious and well-equipped vehicle. In contrast, the Punch CNG, a compact SUV, is designed for urban drivers prioritising efficiency and affordability. Key differences between the two include engine specifications, fuel efficiency, pricing, and feature sets, making it essential for buyers to compare these aspects before deciding on their pick. Tata Punch CNG Launch Event

Starting with the dimensions, the newly launched Nexon CNG measures 3,995mm in length, 1,804mm in width, and 1,620mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,489mm. On the contrary, the Punch CNG stands 3,827mm long, 1,742mm wide, and 1,615mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,445mm. Therefore, the Nexon is marginally longer, wider, and taller than the Punch.

The Nexon iCNG is powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged bi-fuel engine, capable of running on both petrol and CNG. It generates 99bhp of power and 170Nm of torque. Currently available with a manual transmission, there is potential for an automatic version. It has a 60-litre CNG tank and is said to offer a 24km/kg mileage.

When it comes to Punch CNG's mechanical setup, the car comes equipped with a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated (NA) bi-fuel engine that supports both petrol and CNG modes. This engine delivers a power output of 72.5bhp and 103Nm of torque when running on CNG. Like the Nexon CNG, it comes with a manual transmission as standard, with no automatic option currently available. The model is claimed to deliver a mileage of approximately 26.99km/kg.

Talking about similarities, both CNG models feature Tata Motors' advanced single ECU setup, enabling a seamless switch between petrol and CNG. Additionally, they include a direct CNG start feature, enhancing convenience and fuel efficiency.

The Nexon CNG boasts several segment-first features, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with built-in navigation, ventilated seats, a voice-activated panoramic sunroof, and a touch-based climate control system. In terms of safety, it offers advanced protection with a fire prevention system, leak detection, and thermal incident protection. Additionally, the SUV includes a 360-degree camera, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and crucially, six airbags as standard, enhancing both convenience and safety for occupants.

Coming to the Punch CNG, the SUV offers amenities such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED tail lights, USB Type-C fast charger, fog lamps, standard dual airbags, projector headlamps, auto headlamps and wipers, wireless phone charger, a sunroof with voice commands, a front centre armrest, 16-inch alloy wheels, keyless go, driver seat height adjust, a rearview camera, and electronic stability control (ESC).

Tata Nexon CNG vs Tata Punch CNG Spec Comparison: Price Range

Available in eight variants, the price of the Nexon CNG starts at Rs Rs 8.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 14.59 lakh. Meanwhile, the Tata Punch CNG is available in three variants: Pure, Adventure, and Accomplished. The prices for the Punch iCNG range between Rs 7.23 lakh and Rs 9.90 lakh, offering a variety of options for buyers across different price points. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom.
