The Tata Nexon CNG, which made its India debut at this year's inaugural Bharat Mobility Expo, is set to be launched in India soon, although not before the internal combustion engine-powered Curvv coupe-SUV. Tata will announce the pricing of the petrol and diesel versions of the Curvv on September 2.

At launch, the new Nexon CNG will join other powertrain options in the lineup – electric, diesel, and petrol. Under the hood, the Nexon CNG will be equipped with the same 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine (with CNG tech) as its petrol counterpart, making it the country's first turbo-petrol CNG vehicle. Tata has yet to reveal the power and torque figures of the Nexon CNG, but here are the technical specs of the petrol-powered Nexon for your reference – 118bhp and 170Nm. As for the transmission, the Nexon CNG will get two gearbox options – a five-speed manual and an automatic (AMT) gearbox.

For those not aware, Tata's Tiago and Tigor models already offer a CNG-AMT powertrain option. The Nexon will be the third product to do so. The Nexon with a twin-cylinder CNG arrangement will get a reasonable boot space of 230 litres. Tata says the twin cylinders can hold 60 litres of gas. In terms of equipment, the Nexon CNG will offer leakage-proof materials, a leak detection feature, thermal incident protection, a single advanced ECU, direct start in CNG mode, an auto switch between fuels, a micro switch, and a modular fuel filter.

Tata Nexon CNG: Exterior, Interior

The Tata Nexon CNG will look very similar to the petrol/diesel-powered Nexon SUV but will get some CNG-specific changes including an iCNG badge. As for features, the higher-spec variants of the Tata Nexon CNG are expected to pack a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay, along with a similarly sized digital instrument cluster. Other expected bits include a wireless phone charger, keyless entry, cruise control, six airbags, a 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX mounts, and a tyre pressure monitor.

Expect the Tata Nexon iCNG to be priced in the range of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). With such pricing, the Nexon CNG is set to go against the Hyundai Exter, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG.

While the Nexon CNG will be launched in due course, there is a possibility that Tata might also bring in a new diesel-DCT option for the compact SUV. The new diesel-DCT variant of the Nexon is rumoured to be offered with a more powerful 'Kryotec' engine, which makes 116bhp in the Curvv.
