Three new Tata cars are headed our way. The company is also developing mobility solutions for smart cities.
While many major manufacturers have pulled out of this year’s Auto Expo quoting high participation costs, Tata Motors is gearing up to showcase the best of its new technology and engineering at the upcoming motor show.
In an official video, Guenter Butschek, CEO and MD, Tata Motors is seen talking about the company’s upcoming mobility and connectivity solutions for smart cities. In Butschek’s background are three vehicles kept under wraps. It’s quite safe to assume that these are brand new vehicles that Tata has been developing for some time now, and they will be revealed at the expo, most probably in concept form.
While Butschek has not revealed anything about the upcoming trio, we are quite sure that one of the three new cars will definitely be the production-ready concept version of Tata’s upcoming flagship SUV, codenamed H5. The H5 will be underpinned by the Land Rover Discovery Sport’s L550 platform, and will be positioned to rival the Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson.
Then, industry rumours suggest that Tata has been developing an upscale hatchback to rival the i20, Jazz and Baleno. Even though the production version of this car will not hit the road before 2019, we won’t be surprised to see an early concept roughly depicting the car’s design at the Auto Expo. The upcoming model will be the first one to be underpinned by the new AMP platform.
Tata is also expected to launch its first ever performance oriented hatchback, the Tiago Sport, at the expo. Whether the third car under the veil is the Tiago Sport or some other new concept model is not known yet.
autoX will extensively cover the Auto Expo, 2018, which will take place between February 9 - 14, 2018. Make sure to stay tuned for all the action happening at the event.
