A few days back, MG Motor India launched the Blackstorm Edition of its popular SUV, the Hector. For the first time in a while, the MG SUV is now available in a special edition. Since all-black cars, particularly SUVs, are gaining significant popularity, several major automakers are launching their top-selling models in a blacked-out avatar. A range of offerings like the Hyundai Knight Edition, Maruti Suzuki Black Edition, and the Tata Dark range aim to draw in customers with their sporty look and enhanced features. Here we have compared the Tata Harrier Dark with the recently launched Hector Blackstorm edition.

The Hector Blackstorm's feature list remains largely unchanged from the standard model. It comprises a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, connected car technology, a panoramic sunroof, multicoloured ambient lighting, powered boot opening, electronic stability control (ESC), ventilated front seats, six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and ADAS.
On the other hand, the Harrier's key features come in the form of welcome and goodbye animation lights at the front and rear, seven airbags, a 10-speaker JBL sound system with Harman AudioworX, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front and second-row seats, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), Alexa with Car-to-Home functionality, a panoramic sunroof, rear headrest cushions, 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, powered front seats, all-digital instrument cluster, telematics, hill descent control, and Terrain Response Mode Selector with display.
MG Hector Blackstorm vs Tata Harrier Dark Edition Comparison: Price
The price of the Hector Blackstorm starts at Rs 21.24 lakh and goes up to Rs 22.76 lakh (introductory). The Harrier Dark Edition, meanwhile, costs between Rs 19.99 lakh and Rs 26.44 lakh. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom figures.
MG Hector Blackstorm vs Tata Harrier Dark Edition Comparison: Exterior Cues
The Blackstorm edition of the MG Hector has a dark chrome grille and a Starry Black paint job. The SUV receives red inlays around the headlights in addition to the bumper and cladding, which are also finished in dark chrome. The Harrier Dark has a black bumper, a fully blacked-out grille, and an all-black shade as well. However, Tata has not used any chrome accents or red design elements.
When it comes to the side profile, the Hector features dark chrome cladding, while the ORVMs have tiny red inlays. It rides on 18-inch blacked-out alloy wheels with red brake callipers. In contrast, the Harrier Dark sports 19-inch all-black alloy wheels and dark chrome "Harrier" badging. There are no red callipers on the Tata model.
The Hector's rear receives dark chrome accents on the skid plate and bumper, along with a thin red stripe around the boot lip. The "Harrier" logo on the rear profile of the SUV is finished in dark chrome, with the remaining portion remaining black.
MG Hector Blackstorm, Tata Harrier Dark Edition: Engine Specs
The Blackstorm Edition is propelled by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine with 168bhp of power and 350Nm of peak torque, as well as a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with 141bhp and 250Nm of torque. The former is mated to an automatic CVT gearbox, while the latter comes paired with a manual six-speed gearbox.
Similar to the MG model, the Harrier houses a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged diesel unit. The mill also develops 168bhp of maximum power and 350Nm of peak torque. On the transmission front, the model is coupled with both a new automatic transmission with shift-by-wire technology and a six-speed manual transmission.
