Tata Motors has dropped the latest teaser confirming a new, 1.2-litre direct injection turbocharged petrol engine for its upcoming Curvv Coupe SUV. Named the Hyperion, the engine is a three-cylinder unit with an all-aluminium construction, making it lighter than a 1.2-litre Revotron turbo-petrol engine. It has variable valve timing technology, a variable oil pump, and an integrated exhaust manifold in the cylinder head, along with a water-cooled variable geometry turbocharger for better low-end torque.
Compared to the Revotron turbo-petrol engine, the Hyperion can make 123bhp at 5,000rpm and 225Nm of peak torque between 1,700rpm and 3,500rpm. That is 5bhp and 55Nm more than what the Revotron generates. Besides, the new engine is said to offer more refinement and improved fuel efficiency, both of which the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine does not fulfill. The latter will be offered on the lower-spec variants of the Coupe SUV.

Upon its debut in the Tata Curvv, the Hyperion will abide by the Bharat Stage 6 Phase-II emission norms, while being E20 fuel-ready. Transmission options include a six-speed manual and a seven-speed DCT gearbox. Other than the Hyperion and Revotron engines, the Curvv will also come with a 1.5-litre diesel engine option. The 1.2-litre Revotron turbo-petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel are already available with the Nexon.
