Tata Altroz Racer vs Hyundai i20 N Line Spec Comparison: Which One Should You Buy?

We pit the newly launched Tata Altroz Racer against its direct rival, the Hyundai i20 N Line, to see how they fare against each other on paper.

The Tata Altroz Racer, the sportier version of the Altroz hatchback, is the new entrant in the performance hatchback segment, which the Hyundai i20 N Line (Rs 10 lakh–Rs 12.52 lakh) currently rules. It also rivals the Maruti Fronx Turbo priced between Rs 9.72 lakh and Rs 13.04 lakh in our market. Here, we pit the newly launched Tata Altroz Racer against its direct rival, the Hyundai i20 N Line, to see how they fare against each other on paper. 

Whereas the Tata Altroz Racer comes in three variants (R1, R2, and R3) with prices ranging from Rs 9.49 lakh to Rs 10.99 lakh, the Hyundai i20 N Line can be had in two variants – N6 and N8. The prices mentioned are ex-showroom, India. As for colour options, Tata offers Atomic Orange, Pure Grey, and Avenue White for its sportier hatchback, all three with a contrasting black finish on the roof and bonnet. Meanwhile, Hyundai's performance-oriented i20 N Line is offered in five monochromatic shades, with two dual-tone colour options available at an additional cost. They are Abyss Black (New), Atlas White, Titan Gray, Thunder Blue, Starry Night, Atlas White with Abyss Black Roof, and Thunder Blue with Abyss Black Roof.

Tata Altroz Racer vs Hyundai i20 N Line: Dimensions

Measuring 1,523mm in height, the Tata Altroz Racer is 18mm taller than the Hyundai i20 N Line. However, the latter is 5mm longer and 20mm wider than the former. The i20 N Line features a longer wheelbase of 2,580mm than the Altroz Racer (2,501mm). Both vehicles get 16-inch alloy wheels.

Tata Altroz Racer vs Hyundai i20 N Line: Cosmetics 

On the outside, the Tata Altroz Racer has a dual-tone colour scheme with a contrasting black-coloured roof and bonnet. The black elements can also be seen on alloy wheels, wing mirrors, and a tailgate. The tailgate features a black spoiler.

The tailgate spoiler is also offered with the Hyundai i20 N Line. Other than that, the vehicle gets dual exhaust pipes, chrome garnish connecting the LED taillamps, and red highlights around the car. The i20 N Line adds N Line badges, whereas the Altroz Racer gets the Racer badging.

The interior of both cars is all-black. Whereas the cabin of the Altroz Racer has orange accents, the i20 N Line comes with contrast red stitching. In terms of features, both performance hatchbacks offer a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech, a sunroof, a customisable digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, traction control, ABS with EBD, and six airbags. The Altroz Racer additionally gets ventillated front seats.

Under the hood, the Tata Altroz Racer is equipped with a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine delivering 118bhp and 170Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Though there is no automatic gearbox option, the Racer gets a sportier exhaust system. 

On the other hand, the i20 N Line uses a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine making the same power output as the Altroz Racer. However, the torque output stands at 172Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Compared to the pre-facelift model, the facelifted i20 N Line gets a stiffer suspension setup, and the disc brakes are mounted on all four wheels. Also available is a well-tuned, sportier exhaust note. The Altroz Racer does not receive any suspension updates, however.
