The latest Bond movie in the making, Spectre, has set a new record in terms of spending the maximum amount of money on the cars trashed while shooting the movie.
It is like one of the monsters that keep growing bigger and bigger, and also becomes a never ending process. Cars have been an integral part of all the Bond movies from the time we remember.
From the Bentley Drophead 3 ½ Litre used in From Russia with Love to the Aston Martin DB5 being used for the first time in 1964’s Goldfinger to the BMW Z8 used in The World Is Not Enough, Bond has driven some of the most expensive cars in the last five decades.
Well, it seems that the latest Bond movie, Spectre, has broken all the possible records by spending the maximum money on trashing cars. If sources are to be trusted, the producers have spent almost $37 million on the cars that have been totalled while shooting the movie.
Commenting on the budget, Gary Powell told The Daily Mail, “We set the record for smashing up cars on Spectre. In Rome, we wrecked millions of pounds worth. They were going into the Vatican at top speeds of 110 miles per hour. We shot one entire night for four seconds of film.”
If it makes you feel any better or worse, seven out of ten specially made Aston Martin DB10 cars had to be destroyed in order to keep the momentum going. Whether the sacrifice was worth it or not, we will know the answer in coming few weeks.
