7 examples of the Saleen S7 LM will be made to mark the company's 20th anniversary of race wins.
One of the craziest hypercars of the 21st century, the mighty Saleen S7, is set for a comeback. Why? Because Saleen is celebrating the 20th anniversary of winning racing championships for 7 years on the trot – starting from 1996 to 2002. So, to commemorate the occasion, it’s only fitting to come up with a limited run model based around the original car. And Saleen has done exactly that. Meet the Saleen S7 LM - only 7 units will be made marking 7 historic years (including race wins in Daytona, Sebring, Nurburgring, and 24 Hours of LeMans) for the American company!
The Saleen S7 made its debut in the year 2000, and came strapped with a 7.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 developing 550bhp. Power reserves from the engine were fed to rear wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. In 2005, the company decided to bolt a twin-turbo setup to the V8, taking the horsepower count up to 750bhp! This model went out of production in 2009, but even on its way out it could do 0-100km/h in under 3 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 399km/h!
Now the anniversary special S7 LM will have the same V8 engine as the original car, but with a rated power output of 1000bhp! The company hasn’t revealed any performance figures as yet, but then, it’s well understood that it will be faster and even more mental than before. Apart from that, the special edition will incorporate a unique livery (black and silver), interior, wheels, and functional performance enhancements. All the models will be hand built at Saleen’s Corona factory in the US.
Commenting on the comeback of the Saleen S7, the company’s president and CEO, Steve Saleen, said, “True to our form, we are bringing back America’s only true supercar. We are celebrating our winning heritage and advancing the performance DNA that Saleen was built around.”
