It's the 50th anniversary of the Lamborghini Miura and here's how the maker is paying tribute to the icon. Meet the special-edition Aventador Miura Homage.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Lamborghini Miura. And as you’d expect, Lamborghini has come up with a wild special edition model to commemorate the occasion. Dubbed the Aventador Miura Homage, the newly revealed edition will be a limited run production model. Only 50 units will be made..
The Miura is unarguably the most iconic Lamborghini of all time. At the time of its launch in 1966, it became the first road-car to adopt a mid-engine rear-wheel drive layout. And because it was powered by a mighty 3.9-litre V12 engine churning out 345bhp, the Miura was also the fastest road-going production car when it went on sale. The Miura’s legacy was carried forward in all of the flagships Lamborghini models in subsequent years, all of them featuring a mid-mounted naturally aspirated V12.
Since Lamborghini says the Miura was the forerunner of all V12 Lamborghini super sports cars, it was only inevitable for the company to pay the tribute using the Aventador. The Aventador has the same core principles as the Miura – a mid-mounted naturally aspirated V12 mated to otherwordly looks. The only difference is that it’s far more modern. And a heck of a lot madder, badder and faster.
The Aventador Miura Homage is powered by the same 6.5-litre V12 engine as the standard model. The engine develops 690bhp (exactly twice than that of Miura). 0-100km/h will come in just 2.9 seconds and the top speed of 350km/h can be reached. Unlike the Miura, which came with a manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, the Aventador comes only with a seven-speed semi-automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive.
While the Homage edition can’t mimic the original car on the mechanical front, aesthetically, Lamborghini's Ad Personam studio has tried to give it some Miura-like touches. The special edition will come with the same colors and specifications of original Miura models. The upper part of the body is finished in one color and is complemented by a contrasting shade on the lower part. The Aventador Miura Homage will be offered in three iconic shades of the original car including Rosso Arancio Miura, Verde Scandal, and Blu Tahiti. It will also have 20"/21" Dione rims in either matte silver or gold, and a metallic Miura badge on the side along with a black Lamborghini logo on the rear.
Inside, two colour options will be offered - Nero Ade or Terra Emilia leather with tone-on-tone stitching and carbon fiber package as standard. The seats will have Miura 50th logo stitching in gold or silver.
The Lamborghini Aventador Miura Homage will make its public debut at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Lamborghini has not revealed the price of the special version as yet – actually, there’s no point of revealing that now since most of these are being sold out already!
