With the future of mobility still shrouded in uncertainty, Skoda showcases its new design direction and how it aims to appeal to customers in the future.
Over the past couple of decades, Skoda Auto has been going from strength to strength and gaining market share and sales volumes across the world. In fact, some of its current products like the Octavia, Superb, and Kodiaq are segment benchmarks. Now, the landscape of the automotive world is changing fast, and to be honest, the future seems rather uncertain regarding what technology will prevail in the next decade or so. But, keeping regulatory pressures and future plans in mind, automakers have been displaying what they think the future will look like, and we were recently in Prague to look at what the future of Skoda – in terms of both brand identity and new product design – will look like in a few years. Here’s what we witnessed.
New Corporate Identity
Claimed to be the most radical corporate identity change of the Skoda brand in the past 30 years, Skoda’s new design language, logo, and brand identity have been designed keeping the digital world in mind. Going forward, instead of using the Skoda logo, the words ‘Skoda’ will be used much more prominently – you can see it on the bonnet of the Vision 7S. At the same time, the famous winged logo of the brand has also been given a refresh and has now become more two-dimensional in its design.
The Future of Skoda
Now, what we found more interesting was the latest concept from Skoda on display. Named the Vision 7S, this 7-seat SUV gives you a glimpse of what the future Skoda products will look like. And it’s a radical change alright! Gone are the sharp lines of older Skodas, replaced by a design that looks robust and focuses on functionality. The large glasshouse, flat sides, T-shaped front, and rear lights mark a sharp departure from the Skoda cars that we are so familiar with. The Vision 7S is based on an all-electric architecture, and it was interesting to see how the interior featured a lot more space and practicality, indicating the main purpose of the SUV.
Part of a three-car family, the Vision 7S is one of the many new products that the brand is expected to launch in the next few years. In fact, this is the first preview of the seven-seat SUV, which is one of the three all-electric products that the brand will launch by 2026. The other two will be a compact SUV and a small car. Since it’s based on the dedicated MEB EV architecture, the Vision 7S features an 89kWh battery, which gives it a claimed range of over 600kms on a single charge.
Will the Vision 7S make it to India? Well, it’s difficult to say, but what’s certain is that you will see EVs from the Skoda range hitting the Indian market in a very short time frame. And hopefully, if those do well, then we could see wonderful vehicles like the Vision 7S on our roads too.
