The launch dates were announced by Skoda India Director Zac Hollis in a Tweet that has since been deleted.
Skoda’s much-awaited mid-size sedan finally has a launch date, but there’s a twist. Instead of announcing prices for the entire range at once, Skoda India will have a staggered launch with prices for the 1-litre TSI being announced a few days before ones for the 1.5-litre TSI.
Why would Skoda do that? Well, the most obvious explanation is to have a more attractive price range during the initial launch. Since the 1.5 TSI models will be more expensive, launching them later will allow Skoda to have a more affordable range showcased on February 28.
Of course, this staggered launch will also keep the Slavia doing rounds on social media for longer, generating more hype for the mid-size sedan and perhaps more sales for Skoda too.
The 1-litre TSI produces 113bhp and 175Nm and will be available with either a six-speed manual or six-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The bigger 1.5 TSI makes 148bhp and 250Nm, gets a clever active cylinder management system and will also be available with either a six-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG.
To give you a quick refresh of the Slavia’s feature list, higher-spec models will get a digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, ventilated seats and a sunroof.
We expect the Slavia to be priced between Rs 11-16 lakh, making it a solid competitor for other sedans like the Honda City and the Hyundai Verna. Of course its sibling, the Volkswagen Virtus, will also be a rival to the Slavia when it launches in a couple of months.
