Indian car enthusiasts will be thrilled to learn that popular performance sedans, the Skoda Superb and the Octavia, will come back to our shores soon. The Octavia and Superb were discontinued in India on April 1, 2023, and June 5, 2023, respectively. The main cause of this move from the firm was the declining sales. Now, the models will be reintroduced into the market by mid-2024, according to Skoda India. Since local assembly requires lengthy preparations, such as long-distance emissions testing, the manufacturer is initially considering importing both sedans. This implies that the high costs are probably going to stay that way.

The maker has announced that it would make a comeback with the Superb. The car is anticipated to arrive in showrooms in the opulent Laurent and Klement trim by mid-year. While an exact date for Octavia's comeback to our market has not been announced, the company indicated that the sedan will remain a part of the company's India portfolio until 2034 and undergo all the revisions and facelifts that the model receives worldwide. By guaranteeing the sedan's availability in the market, Skoda aims to cater to over 70,000 Octavia owners.

New Skoda Superb Sedan: Expected Powertrain Details

Since its launch in 2001, the Superb has been among Skoda's most significant vehicles. This high-end car sports a sloping roofline, a larger butterfly grille, adaptive LED headlights, and new 19-inch designer wheels in its most recent iteration.

The Superb sedan is expected to offer a powerful driving experience thanks to its 2.0-litre turbo-petrol mill, which belts out 187bhp of maximum power and 320Nm of peak torque and is BS6 Phase 2-compliant. On the transmission front, it is paired with a seven-speed DSG twin-clutch gearbox. The vehicle can go from 0 to 100km/h in about 7.8 seconds. In India, we anticipate the ex-showroom asking price of the Superb to fall around Rs 43 lakh.

Skoda Kushaq, Slavia Facelifts to Get Level 2 ADAS in India

In other news, it was revealed the manufacturer will soon introduce several noteworthy modifications to its Kushaq SUV and Slavia sedan. The two models in the company's portfolio have so far done well in the market and are crucial to its India 2.0 strategy. Notably, the automobiles have also received a five-star safety rating under Global NCAP's new crash test program. However, over time, many competing vehicles have increased their market shares due to the extensive range of cutting-edge features they offer.

The Czech car major will incorporate advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and various other feature changes into the facelifted models to stay up with the market. Petr Janeba, Skoda's brand director, acknowledged that the company needed to catch up in terms of features and reiterated that facelifts and interim updates would be utilised to bridge this divide. For the uninitiated, the company does not currently offer ADAS in any of its vehicles in India, except the top-of-the-line L&K variant of the Kodiaq SUV, which is priced at Rs 39.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Apart from this, Janeba made references to other feature enhancements for the Kushaq and Slavia in addition to the ADAS level 2 tech. He said that other features, such as a 360-degree camera, and more limited versions will be available in our market soon. Moreover, the brand plans to release a brand-new sub-compact SUV in India by March 2025. The Hyundai Venue, the Kia Sonet, the Tata Nexon, and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza will be the rivals of this forthcoming model.
