Skoda revealed the new Fabia, which now comes with snazzy new headlamps with LED running lights, bonnet with wide air dam, an air splitter and new fog lamps. From the rear, the Fabia is more in the lines of the current Octavia.
The Czech car maker has ensured that there are lots of space for occupants and their luggage. The interior passenger space is slightly longer and larger than in the outgoing model, therefore it provides increased headroom for the driver and passengers. Although the new Fabia’s interior length is increased by around 8 mm to 1,674 mm, while the elbow room is also greater at 1,401 mm (21 mm longer) at the front and 1,386 mm (2 mm longer) at the rear.
The new Fabia’s has 330 litres luggage compartment, which is 15 litres more than the previous model. With the rear seats folded down, loading capacity increases to up to 1,150 litres. A spacious rear access width of 1,098 mm, a tailgate that swings open to 1,915 mm and a low sill height make loading easier. The loading area is 960 mm wide, which is 2 cm wider than the previous generation.
This new hatchback is Skoda’s first model to come with MirrorLink technology, which allows drivers to control smartphone apps from the infotainment screen via a USB connection. Other new features include a multimedia device cradle in the center console, bigger storage for bottles in the rear doors and glove compartment, parking ticket holder on the left-side A-pillar and two (optional) hooks in the trunk.
The Fabia is expected to come in both petrol and diesel variants. A 1.0 litre 3 cylinder petrol engine will generate 59 bhp, while the powerful 1.2 litre TSI petrol unit is expected to produce 109 bhp of power. The 1.4 litre diesel engine in this vehicle will be available in two power options -- 74 bhp and 104 bhp.
