Skoda is readying the Kylaq compact SUV. The model in question will debut on November 6, offering the first complete look at it. In the meantime, we have fresh spy shots of the SUV to check out. While the design details are under a full-body camouflage, we know that it is the base-spec variant of the Kylaq. Up front, it appears to have a split headlamp setup (probably with halogens) and a wide grille. It features 16-inch steel wheels with black covers, unlike the official teaser showing the blacked-out alloy wheels. Another bit that can be spotted on the test mule is the presence of front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, but it misses out on a wiper and defogger that will likely be offered on the higher-spec variants.
Skoda Kylaq Base Variant: Interior
Inside, the Kylaq Base shares styling cues with the Kushaq. It doesn't have a long list of features, but it sports fabric seats, a two-spoke steering wheel, an analogue instrument cluster, a manual inside rearview mirror, a manual handbrake, and cup holders for the front-row passengers. It lacks a music system and touchscreen, though. Safety-wise, the Kylaq is confirmed to get six airbags as standard. For higher-spec variants, we expect a 360-degree camera and an ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) suite.
Skoda Kylaq Base Variant: Powertrain
Under the hood, the Kylaq will be equipped with a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 113bhp and 178Nm of peak torque. The engine will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Expect the base variant to get the manual gearbox only.

The Kylaq will ride on the MQB A0-IN platform that underpins the Slavia, Taigun, and the Kushaq. It will likely be priced between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom) upon launch. In terms of market competition, the model will go against the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Mahindra XUV 3XO, and the Hyundai Venue.
